Technically, it's also the first time we support native 8-bit on capability >= 7.5, < 8.9. But >= 8.0, < 8.9 already had great FP8 support through FP8-Marlin.

Yep, the Advantage design was based on the Maltron, which also had a ‘matrix’. Only a small fault for a keyboard that almost nailed it… in the late 70s/early 80s.

About the thumb cluster: the Kinesis Advantage manual suggests to use the outer keys by moving your hand.
So, even with the 3D-ness of the Advantage you are not supposed to reach them.
