taking new skates out for a spin!
and yes, that is ‘labour’ by paris paloma playing from my phone during my 6am practice because i was the only one on the ice.
it was a perfect way to start the day.

his short program: www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Oq...
this man SKATES. he doesn't just jump. he has an extraordinary style that really shows off the best of this sport: strength and lyricism. every movement is intentional and breathes life into this music. when he hits a jump, it's a MOMENT.

truly!! the whole thing is so b e n o i t but the feminist in me just wants her to own how powerful it is to skate to this book/show at this moment in time! the red dress is stunning. definitely one of my favorite programs this season!

so i LOVE nina’s freeskate but it would be so powerful to acknowledge the context of the music ??? especially since they included the voiceover. the way she talked about it in one interview i read was a little strange.

i’m not saying surrogacy is good or bad but generally just pointing out that the desire to become a mother can be such a heavy feeling and this podcast really humanizes the all consuming grief and sadness that is often left out of this conversation. we really need to be more gentle with each other.

you can see how much stigma there is around in/fertility and one thing i appreciate about this podcast is how it viscerally describes the pain and isolation of going thru IVF, miscarriage, and other fertility struggles which is only exacerbated by how it still feels taboo to have these discussions

definitely not okay and struggling hard but i’m going to lesson plan for a few of my classes and try to focus on some self-care right now… sending a big hug.

notes from day 1 of teaching 1/2 sections! students did a wonderful job identifying all the different layers to the story!

update: i did order these risport beauties YESTERDAY after i went in thinking i would just get my usual custom jackson’s in the correct size (don’t ask). taking a leap by trying a new brand and have to break these in on my own (they’re so stiff), but excited to see how this goes!
