So true, if kids get decent grades and don't cause problems for adults they get more responsibility and expectations thrust on them because they are so "mature". And, being a kid, they're usually too naive to see how messed up that is, or how much of childhood they're losing out on.

Once had a friend advise me to call the cops for a mental health crisis. I told her I would not. Then, locally, someone in a mental health crisis is murdered by a bystander for "attacking" a policeman and suddenly she's all "Don't call the cops."
