Isn't that supposed to be the bit you *don't* say out loud?

Fuck this "Canada as 51st state" framing. Why are we allowing the narrative to be set in this way? The framing should be "America starting an illegal war with Canada" because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

I keep seeing DEI being called an ideology when it is not, and the white supremacy that is replacing it not being called an ideology, when it really is. That shit goes back centuries.

Time to stop calling it a negotiation. This is two autocrats, looking to leverage as much as they can from a sovereign country, lying about Ukraine, posturing without Ukraine. Europe has to step up fast. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Read. Share. Hope.

“After we’ve discriminated against, deported, or disparaged all the immigrants, the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women, and minorities. Once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends… what comes next?” - Gov. JB Pritzker

There’s that thing about refusing to teach accurate history and who it serves and how it serves them, always

Athens: Untourism

A US president abusing state power to pressure a sovereign democracy to lift travel restrictions on two people facing rape and human tracking charges - simply because they're political supporters. The White House is fast becoming the global epicentre of moral corruption. www.ft.com/content/3f95...

This is fascism.

And there is absolutely no conflict of interest to see here ...

The man for whom ANYTHING can be bought or sold. This is just horrifying - and so far outside anything we've seen politically. One man claiming he can 'own' Gaza, and it is no more than prime real estate. What next?

Every opinion poll strengthens my view that if mainstream parties don't appear to be talking about the real world and how people live within it then that leaves a gap for populists who can shout vacuous stuff louder. Unfashionable as it may be.

Listening to BBC news you wouldn’t know the US was being taken over by fascists, with incalculable consequences for the world

Something to counteract today's unremitting grey drizzly-rainy-mist ...

Was that a Whitehouse Press Briefing or an episode of Black Mirror? Regarding gender: “Only 2 sexes exist, male and female” Regarding Gaza: No, the President “has not committed to boots on the ground—yet.” Who’s responsible for oversight on Musk’s conflicts of interest: “Elon is.” TBC…

And meanwhile, back in the moral vacuum at the top of the Tory party ...

In his first term Trump was lazy and so little was done. In his second term Trump is still lazy, but those around him now realise this means that nothing can stop them.

Headline (in the Graun) that no-one could have predicted: Scepticism in Whitehall that Heathrow plan can be reconciled with climate targets

#HeathrowExpansion won’t deliver growth. Business demand is falling & more tourists leave than arrive. But it *will* trash climate commitments, drive more extreme weather, noise & air pollution & only benefit frequent flying super-emitters - the 15% who take 75% of flights. Labour should be better

The Times essentially reprinted the Telegraph's nonsense story about "illegal migrants" [thread appended below.] They have now published a detailed correction. I expect the Telegraph to follow.

People disturbed by the way that Chinese AI systems seem to ignore information that’s inconvenient to Chinese authorities - the Tiananmen Square massacre for example - might want to think about what that implies for American AI systems.

Why do BBC give Laura Kuenssberg free rein to write this drivel? "The big picture is tough. The country's debts are massive and taxes are huge." It's not even wrong/biased. It's just vacuous twaddle that adds absolutely nothing to public understanding of the issues. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

If you need a break from the news, try "bloomscrolling" ... much better for the soul!

The UK’s environmental commitments leave no room for extra runways.

Coming out in paperback in March!

This should be a resigning matter for Miliband really. How to take him seriously otherwise if Reeves has her way? www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Not appreciating the #r4today chuckling tone about Trump. A ‘What is he like?’ feel to it. When what he’s like is a convicted felon who’s pardoned insurrectionists, plans to leave the WHO and the Paris Climate Accord and is threatening mass deportations. Nothing remotely amusing about any of that.

Does the billionaire guy who grew up in a white supremacist segregationist autocracy, and spends much of his time retweeting racists and fascists, know what the gesture means and is associated with? Who can say.
