It’s Saturday afternoon. You get a work email from someone claiming to be an auditor, but they don’t sign the email. Who is this from? Is it legit? They ask you to describe what you accomplished last week. What do you do? You do what those security trainings taught you. *Report as phishing*

Once upon a time, some villagers came across a large, ornate wooden box in the local woods. On the side of the box was a message: “Whatever money you put in this box will, in future, grow to become 2.5 times larger.” 1/

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

The court ordered that NIH grant funding be unfrozen, so The Regime found a way around it. For NIH grants to be funded, a review panel must rank them. In order for a review panel to meet, they must post it on the Federal Register. Submissions to the Federal Register are now on hold “indefinitely”.

This is not news to most scientists by now, but others might be interested. Biomedical research is undergoing tremendous damage, even beyond the firings at NIH, CDC, and NSF; the suppression of data sharing; and the attacks on initiatives to improve scientific quality.

The "schedule" of upcoming National Advisory Council meetings (based on posted dates) No special meetings have been posted. These meetings must be announced at least 15 days in advance in the Federal Register Once communications and Federal Register posting bans are lifted these may change...

Holy shit. This is fucking nuts.

Nice to see this www.science.org/content/arti...

BREAKING: Federal judge temporarily blocks NIH indirect costs rate cap issued Friday as applied to states that sued over the act this morning. Judge Angel Kelley, a Biden appointee, ordered further briefing as well, and set a hearing on Feb 21 in the case. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

This account is for sharing info with US scientists, both extramural and intramural to NIH, about attacks on science in the US. Education is power, and we can help advocate for science and medicine together. 💪🧪 We are a team of NIH people. Please ask us questions you might have.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Our latest paper www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... shows that mass PCR testing could control a range of potential respiratory pandemics at low societal cost. We also explore logistics. Even a prototype would be really nice now with H5N1. @jameshay.bsky.social 1/9

The Trump administration is scrubbing the CDC’s website of documents on reproductive rights issues, sexual health, intimate partner violence, and more. I'm trying to save them. You can find the deleted docs at cdcguidelines.com - I'll be adding more over the weekend.

F**k! “PEPFAR’s computer systems also are being taken offline, a sign that the program may not return” www.nytimes.com/2025/01/27/h...

I am begging the national media to start taking this seriously. Stop buying the claims that the framing of "temporary" or "pause." They are altering the review processes of federally funded scientific research from merit-based peer review processes to political screening by ideologues.

If you're a scientist that serves on an NSF panel that got cancelled today, I'd love to talk to you about it for an NPR story. DM, email or reach out on signal.
