I think 99% of the time people hate each other’s ideas on the internet it’s because they think they’re bad. I don’t think the people who disagree with me secretly think I’m right and can’t handle it.

(the funny part is that the actual name was “Chernobyl”, which is definitely one of those “would be a beautiful girl’s name if you removed the context”)

ha, it’s funny that Sweeney is using the Trojan horse metaphor because I used the same in the follow up but in reverse

honestly “these are the left’s ideas” is great, I’m taking it as an unambiguous W — folks like Kristin Richardson Jordan are not that far in the rear view mirror!

“‘The Raven’ is about how Poe thought that birds need to shut the goddamn hell up” would not be correct but it would definitely be closer

I don't think you could separate Sly Stone's influence out of Parliament/Funkadelic, Prince, The Isley Brothers, D'Angelo, Michael Jackson, Public Enemy, OutKast, just to name a few

if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend Questlove's documentary about Stone on Hulu. it paints a portrait of someone who had a truly equal love of the best of what, at the time, would be called "black" music and "white" music and combined them in a way that jettisoned both forward.

I guess part of the outrage is that there's been an assumption that pop music is meant for children, but that's definitely not exclusively the case now and maybe never actually was

we should consider ourselves relatively lucky that a few days after they maybe had a guilt-by-association ding against the Dems for burning Waymos in LA that they straight up tackled a sitting U.S. Senator
