Post-processualism day in my Anthropological Archaeology class today. One hour lecture to cover everything from Saussure to the poststructuralists to Hodder to WAC. I do believe my head was spinning 360 degrees the whole time.

It's hard to buy into the Super Bowl with so many more important things to care about. But it's also true that our most ridiculous Americanistic holidays (super bowl, 4th July) are really good at bringing us together with our neighbors over some communal food. I do believe that's a Good Thing.

My mental health has been vastly improved this term by bringing my mandolin to campus and practicing for half an hour twice a day. It's a much better writer's block habit than scrolling.

This morning, I was notified that all NSF reviewing, awarding, and payments of existing awards have been paused. This is nothing short of a disaster for ongoing research work.

Thinking about founding the Free Church of Scotland (Discontinuing). It will just be the Roman mass.

I promised some updates from my Anthropological Archaeology course. Predictably, the start of the quarter has been very busy, so I haven't quite followed through yet. But here are some highlights!

I owe an apology to many a professor; making a Canvas site is 5x harder than using a Canvas site.

Happy Friday, y'all. I'm logging off until after Christmas. Enjoy your holiday if you are celebrating one, and enjoy life if you're not!

Today, writing feels like wringing out the last dregs of dirty dishwater from the rag that is my brain.

Counterpoint: Do

Getting really jazzed about teaching (Intro to) Anthropological Archaeology in January, and thinking about posting recaps of what we cover in class here!

Wow, top 0.05%!

Impossible question to answer, but I will always love "Hocus pocus, maladjusted / don't you think my tears get rusted" from John Prine's "Quiet Man"

I do hope no one ever writes about me like this... (From Cheal 1988 "The Postmodern Origin of Ritual")

Very excited (and a bit nervous) to announce that I will be hiring two Postdocs for my new group(!) in Copenhagen to study the Neanderthal and Denisovan DNA which survives in present-day humans. Retweet will be much appreciated :) Link for application: candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationI...

I'm not sure that an F1 race director should be treating debris on the track the same way I treat the dirty dishes - ignore them and hope that the situation somehow resolves itself. #F1

George and the drivers association are going to have a field day with this race #F1

That is absolutely disgraceful from #F1 and the FIA. Complete inaction over a clear safety issue. That mirror should've been taken care of immediately and now one driver has hit it and the debris has given two cars punctures. Absolutely fucking ridiculous. Shambolic. #F1

Also race director-firing season, I hope...

James Vowles sighing, opening his wallet, watching a fly buzz out...

Michigan just finished their worst season in ten years and still returned home to a standing ovation because they beat Ohio State and these are the things we have to keep alive as every other shred of meaning is stripped away from the sport

michigan players are gonna walk out of the shoe with a win and an excessive force lawsuit against the police. big day

If you're not watching the PWHL, you should be. Going to a shootout for the season opener between Montreal and Ottawa and couldn't be more on the edge of my seat.

Notre capitaine ❤️

Lifelong Michigan State and decade-long Notre Dame fan here. But today, you better believe, go Wolverines 💯💯

It's coach-firing season. Your turn, bukeyes

The world watches women's sports.

I will not jinx this but I'll say that Michigan football is making progress towards something extremely funny and gratifying

Ohio State has not beaten Michigan in football in 1827 days. #GoBlue

Apologies to everyone who has followed me from one of the archaeology/heritage starter packs who's had to put up with posts about (American) football over the past few days. The sportsposting will continue, but I promise to keep my profile at least 60% archaeology. Go Blue.

Honored and delighted to have been elected as a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland today! Looking forward to being a part of the Society.

Michigan may not find a way to win today, but OSU MIGHT find a way to lose

The Chicago Bears are firing Matt Eberflus. Honestly didn’t think they had it in them.
