Michigan just finished their worst season in ten years and still returned home to a standing ovation because they beat Ohio State and these are the things we have to keep alive as every other shred of meaning is stripped away from the sport

Ryan day through that game so he could go to the NFL. I am so disgusted with Ohio State right now so enjoy your little rub in. Maybe if we actually get a coach that can put a staff together that knows how to coach talented players we might actually win games instead of doing the typical Ohio choke
College athletics is an allegory for our country. Bit by bit, step by step it is being DEVOURED by big money interests. There is NO ONE who actually thinks it's a good idea to combine legalized gambling with paying college athletes, yet that's where we're headed.
Michigan's win is like when Chandler got one joke right in Friends. Amidst all the misses, that victory lap still feels sweet. Pass me the Gatorade, Joey.
Last year's Wolverine season was a perfect season in my eyes. I told myself I wouldn't watch another one. I felt the same after the Cubs won the World Series. I waited for that win for so long and it was as all satiated. I'm glad I didn't invest emotionally this year.
AND they had a player scuffle and post-game melee. Any rivalry Saturday game that didn't was ignored. What? It's not important enough to throw hands and spray mace???
I'm an OSU alum and hate losing to Michigan but it's true that this has been the only thing, in a full season of football, where I felt like it mattered. NIL, playoff expansion and conference consolidation has made everything else feel pretty pointless to me.
On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, the Big Ten is a large part of why we're in this mess, and Michigan and Ohio State should play on a Friday night in October in Cleveland to understand the pain that's been inflicted on the rest of us.
Rivalries like Michigan vs. Ohio State are the soul of sportsβwhere pride outshines the record. A standing ovation after a tough season reminds us why we love the game: itβs about moments, not just stats. Keep the passion alive, even as the sport evolves.
Respect it. Disappointing loss for sure. But now the buckeyes have to focus on the playoffs. We have bigger fish to fry. Go watch some basketball brother
The conferences are too big so teams have artifical records, look at the schedule quality. Oregon 2 top 25 opp, Ohio St 3, Penn State 2, Notre Dame no top 10 teams, Miami 0, Indiana 1, the Big 12 is pathetic, the Pac 12 doesn't exist. Sure Jeanty is cool, so is Hunter, but what are we even doing?
You peaked my interest so I checked the 90s champions and how many opponents were on the final AP Top 25: (Didnβt include bowl games)

Youβre talking about a sport that used to finish with two national champions, consistency has never been its strong suit, you are correct that every mega conference should be playing 10 conference games, but guess what weβll find out whoβs the best when they play each other in the playoff
I havenβt watched a lot of football this fall but was shocked that OSU wasnβt able to perform better against Michigan given their records. THATβS the #2 team? Ha!
πππ. Thatβs the way it is here. Michigan was rebuilding. The expectation from even the commentators was that Ohio would win by 20. πππ They couldnβt even get to 10! It was a great Day!
Michigan could have won 3 games all year but if one of them is against Ohio State, they're happy. What a monumental upset. Sadly, for some reason it won't keep Ohio State out of the playoff which is dumb
My point was Michigan can salvage a horrible season by beating Ohio State and the nature of rivalries. I went to Oregon State so I know his winning THE rivalry game makes a 3 win season less painful.
Iβm aware. And the counter point is Michigan has much higher standards than Oregon state. Beating Ohio while losing 9 games a year isnβt anything to be that happy about.
Nobody is missing the point except for you lol. Beating rival = still a good season. Thatβs your point but youβre not understanding that only goes so far. Itβs cute youβre trying to lecture *ME* on this rivalry π please do go.
It has been a long time since HS looking to play football in college picked the school for academics. Way before NIL. The payday just comes earlier now.
Yep, this. If you're watching college football under the impression that the kid picked your school for its philosophy program you're doing it wrong. Plus, kids have practice, workouts, travel for 40+ hours a week for football. They don't have time to be dedicated to academics.
Money was introduced when coaches were making $9 million a year and running players off the team if they got hurt. And switching schools but leaving players stuck. It was WAY uglier earlier. This is fair.
Inevitable bi product of these schools making a metric fuck ton of money off these kids and not having to compensate them beyond a degree that may or may not work out due to a myriad of issues.
It's a testament to the passion and tradition that runs deep in college football. Rivalries like Michigan and Ohio State carry weight beyond records and rankings. Even in tough seasons, these rivalries provide a sense of continuity and purpose that's worth celebrating.
I love Michigan football, never lived there, never been to a game there. Watching The Game at the Big House is on my bucket list. Was stupid not to go when Harbaugh was there.
Got season tickets last year. Great year to start. Told everyone the only way I wasn't going to the OSU game was if one of my kids wanted to go with my wife in my place. So of course, my youngest daughter did.
She had a great time and UofM is her top school of choice now, so worth it.
I can't see how Ryan Day survives this. His team lost to a subpar Michigan team (let's be honest). This is the fourth year straight that OSU has lost
this game, if I'm not mistaken. Someone please explain to me how, outside of winning the CFP, he survives this.
The mark of a good rivalry. The Packers and Bears play the last week of the season. The Bears look to end their 11 game losing streak to Green Bay. Will the Packers rest players if their playoff position can't be improved or go all out to make the streak a dozen wins?
I am not really on point with college football, but I imagine you are having similar conversations as we have in England about the wearing away of tradition in soccer. So that we can all watch Liverpool or Manchester United on subscription TV more often
Bowl games used to be the crowning event at the end of the year, usually with interesting matchups between teams that never otherwise play eachother. Now they're just occasional stepping stones to a championship or a consolation prize game.
In football/soccer terms Everton could be relegated this year but as long as they don't lose to bitter rivals Liverpool, or even better deny them from winning the League, the blue of Merseyside will celebrate like no tomorrow.
The UM player who told the interviewer "They need to learn how to lose," - no, YOU need to learn how to win, with class and grace. Now no one will talk about that amazing win without also talking about that 'sore winner' move. Classless. I hope the coach tells them that, or he's not much of a coach.
It's still classless, and it's not a "tradition," it's been done a few times. UM has a history of classless-ness. A basketball player once went out onto the MSU court before the game, sat down on the center emblem, and wiped his *ss on the court.
Lord have mercy, how many times do I have to tell you guys, I am not an Ohio State fan, I live in Michigan, we do not like Ohio State as a general rule. I'm not a Michigan fan, either. I'm just a fan of sportsmanship, in games, in life, in politics.
Someone replied to me, saying it was a tradition. Well, I'm 70. I remember decades full of the tradition of sportsmanship. Social media and the rise of Trump have kind of broken that, it would be nice to have some decorum reinstated.
This Buckeye does. There are millions of us.
Sadly, our state has had a loss of integrity this year. π’
But, true fans are holding out for a change π on many fronts.
Yeah but you know thatβs not the norm. Iβm a born & raised Ohioan who went to to OSU and I love it when they lose to MI. I donβt care about MI but love to needle my family over it. Folks there are obsessed. We are outliers. Lol.
You can throw out both teamβs records for the OSU and UM game, itβs always been a great rivalry.OSU didnβt play well and the coaching sucked but it was still an exciting game. Better than watching them kill teams like Toledo. The brawl after the game was disgusting and both teams should be punished.
My husband can't watch Michigan live either because he thinks he's bad luck or because it stresses him. Sometime after the game I heard this huge "YEEEEESSSSSS" and for just a second, I thought someone important had died. But, no, it was just MI beating OH.
My daughter is the drum major for a band whose football team played in the State Championship game in Ford Field on Saturday. We were driving back from Detroit when the game was on and my wife purposely didn't look at the game the whole ride figuring Michigan would lose anyway.
That riot was Ryan Dayβs Woody Hayes punch. That alone should get him fired, losing to Michigan four straight years, and the coach who called those awful plays that generated boos, needs to be fired as well. And the fg kicker too.

Muted. I just can't with this nonsense.
Watching the Ducks run over Washington.
Total and complete heroes. Crap season saved by handing oh how I hate Ohio state their asses today.π
But Iβll be cold in the ground before I let football rivalries die.
..again
They won the fuggin natty last year. Anything right now is just gravy.
This year, they had a new coach and only 5 starters return.
The expectations dropped significantly once it was evident what this team was. And they beat MSU and OSU.
I can rest easy
That might hurt any chances they have for a Natty.
Ohio State comes out looking like a whiner.
Michigan had a successful season all things considered.
Beat MSU, Beat OSU. Always first 2 goals of a Michigan coach
2 of them were crushed by Michigan today

Talking about the ugliness of HS seniors selling themselves to the highest bidder. Kids transferring is they donβt start immediately
Itβs professional football for teenagers and 21 year olds
What happened to the idea of picking a school for its academics
Academics. Lol.
Defend it all you want
I donβt have to like it
Anytime money is introduced into any equation it gets ugly, attracts charlatans and brings out the worst in people
Congrats to UMich, tho. Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

This is inexcusable.
And congratulations to Michigan. They outplayed us all day long.

You just had a billionaire buy a 17 year old as a present for his girlfriend last weekend.
Shut the hell up about saving anything. You're program is the example of what is wrong.
But now, as far as I'm concerned, they can both go 0-48 the next 4 years.
Turned on the TV in time to see the brawl. Also, the HS are Div7 State Champs now. Good football day all around.
