Just want to offer a place where people have a place to talk about stuff they love or may love every month. I know a lot of people don't have those places where they can just nerd out so I want to create those spaces in any way I can. So join us. If you can get the books, I will help however I can.

You never have to have read a comic in your life to join. Heck, it's better if you haven't because you will have fresh perspectives! We are a safe space to talk about the themes, characters, and everything explored in the book. It isn't a space where anyone will ever make you feel dumb or silly.

I kept notes because there is a project that
@gothamnocturne.bsky.social, Ethan, I, and... uh... @ssnyder1835.bsky.social have coming, where there will be much deeper analysis of all things Absolute. It's just so wonderful to have comics like this from DC that make me want to write forever.

There is so many uses of the original ideas of Superman in this book that crank it to 11. The cape, his suit, Kryptonian politics, and so much more. I could write a thousand words on each of these things...

I cannot say more because it's not on shelves yet, but I urge you, if you like body horror or mad scientists... this version of Brainiac is just *chef's kiss*. I wasn't sure what to expect, but when I saw him for the first time, this was me.

But as the horror comic critic I am and the person banging the gong that the Absolute Universe IS a horror universe, I was like okay, but where is the horror here
@jason-aaron.bsky.social? Then I read Issue 7. Be still, my heart, because boy howdy did they craft a Brainiac who was made for freaks

Having a shared universe for Godzilla comics is so cool to me because I just have been eating up all the books with Godzilla lately. They’re so fun but getting to have something completely new and crafted for comics is what this is. You aren’t going to want to miss this.

There is this certain atomic (I’m not sorry) energy to it that could only exist in comics. It’s really bombastic with some really eye catching character designs that ooze personality even without words. I’m so excited to get to see more of this. I cannot explain how pumped I am.

But for things like Absolute and Ultimate, those should be a shared experience. That is Sunday Night HBO Sopranos/Game of Thrones Monday morning office talk comics.

Comics are so unique that I think both things can and should exist but I think some books should be given the chance to be put out as a fully formed book more often than in single issues. I want to see more of that because it can help things land better.

But I just wonder how long that will keep working with everything. I want to have to sit with the mid part of an issue sometimes. A cliff hanger or a filler issue. There is something nice about that. Or being pleasantly surprised about how something twists (Spidey this week tho)

It’s why I started GateCrashers because I wanted people to get to feel that joy and find places to find their in to join these spaces from the start or jumping on points to follow along monthly in that manner. There is something so special about waiting for those new issues

There is such a joy of talking with your nerdy friends and getting to have this shared experience of “oh my god can you believe so and so” and “oh I wonder if so and so will happen” but it’s because we all are in at the ground floor. We got to start from issue one.

Now back to the single issue discussion, Ultimate and Absolute. These are my prime examples of why I still will never move away from reading single issues. I will never get over the joy of reading Batman or Spider-Man and rushing to talk to my friends about it.
