I’ve told MS, publicly, that their stunt was silly and it was going to make serious discussions about SRM harder. But I won’t enjoy seeing them attacked by a government that, at the same time, pretends “clean coal” is a thing while pearl-clutching about “polluting our air” with 10 grams of sulfate.

I Promessi Sposi, one of Italy’s most famous novels, has at one point a quip that I never fully internalized until reading who is *missing* from this brief: “Bravery is something you either have or don’t have, not something you can give yourself”.

NOAA is a $6.7B agency.

I must not be the first person to bring this up But there has never been a more vindicated guy

Also—apparently DOGE is looking to "de-scope" (shrink, but not cancel) cloud HPC contracts at NOAA, which are for when they need more supercomputing capacity than they have in house. A lot of targeted stuff is longer term research, but that would potentially impact *current hurricane forecasts*.

One of these things is unpleasant, perhaps unavoidable, some would say natural, some not, but definitely needs to be talked about. The other is, uhm, pregnancy.

Sadly, warnings about NOAA/NWS were always going to go this way: "nah, you're over-reacting" and "but see, forecasts are fine" up until the very last minute when the entire structure is at the brink. Still last week, some very well known UW guy was cheering on "trimming the fat" off NOAA.

"If you know the ground and you know the weather, your victory will then be total." Rear Admiral Jon White quoting Sun Tzu to explain why cuts to NOAA are so dangerous to the Navy's mission Concludes opening statement: "I lose sleep every night" over this www.youtube.com/live/6Ri-0vN...

Outlast the mofos.

It’s trans day of visibility. Trans friends: We are in the deep. You are not required to do anything, including be visible. So, stay visible, if you choose. More than visibility, stay alive. The movement needs you loving and living, more than it needs you visible. Stay safe, keep fighting.

The same government wants to make you believe they’ll ban something that doesn’t exist -something that it’s being discussed, scientifically, mainly *because* climate science has provided such robust and dire warnings about the consequences of climate change- while actually dousing you in toxins.

The problem with the analogy “if I have a guest in the house I’m free to kick them out if they criticize me” is that, if I have a guest in my house and my dish is poisonous or my pipes are leaking, I would rather be told (even if they shout OH SHIT YOUR HOUSE IS CRUMBLING) than keep my pride safe.

I keep watching the video of the kidnapping of the Tuft student and I am very, very sick to my stomach.
