Fear is the mind honker

Try as you might, you can't write your second draft before you write your first. Immutable laws of the universe are funny like that. #scriptsky

90% of writing happens away from the keyboard. In the shower. On a walk. In the car. Wherever you & your thoughts are alone together, that's when writing happens. If you find yourself stuck, staring at a blinking cursor, unable to find the words, don't be afraid to step away & find somewhere quiet.

This might not mean anything to you but in my first draft they arrived at the hunting lodge on page 33 and in my current draft-in-progress they’ve arrived on page 14 and wow does that already feel so much better. #scriptsky

i write to be surprised (even the littlest bit), and as i rewrite i hope (i hope!) to be astonished

Bluesky is a great site but you have to unlearn EVERYTHING Twitter has ever taught you to make it useable. Repost yourself. Interact with others. Use tags. Use feeds. Be kind and find kindness. Comment away. It's really really freeing.

#Oscars should help get name thanking out of acceptance speeches (e.g. nominees submit lists in advance, names scroll by on screen when they win) so winners can focus on sharing their actual thoughts and feelings without going over time.

Voting for the best piece of art is so dumb. Art isn't a contest. The art itself is the award.⁣⁣ #oscars⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go submit my screenplay to a competition I really hope I win.⁣⁣ #scriptsky

Just tried the beta of the “image playground” Apple AI feature on my Mac and that thing is pure nightmare fuel. I gave it a photo of myself and felt my soul evacuating my body. Why does Apple think we want this slop factory on our devices? I’ve never hit the feedback button so hard.

Maybe you’re right that your first draft is intentionally understated, its true genius difficult to grasp. But if every reader says it isn’t working, you don’t have to throw it out. Trust yourself to do the hard work of rewriting, knowing the original is always just a double click away. #scriptsky

Don’t rush into writing your second draft after getting feedback on your first. Give the notes time to settle. Do some outlining. Explore and rediscover. Otherwise, your second draft may just end up like your first, but with extra steps. #scriptsky

As a Canadian, I would kindly ask Wayne Gretzky to politely skate to where the puck is going, and then stay there. We’re done with your treachery, thanks very much.

Spent close to a year developing the first act of this screenplay and multiple readers now have told me that’s the part that is either too vague or could be cut completely. Does it sting a little? Yes. Would it hurt even more to ignore it? Absolutely. #scriptsky

screenwriter: finally having realized the monster is actually the good guy and the scientists are the bad guys, the teens help the monster escape from the lab 1980's executive: great! just great! love the big picture. now how many slurs can we fit into the kids' dialogue? screenwriter: a lot

Having a go (again) at adapting an unsuitable screenplay idea into prose, and am learning (again) that when the reins are off I will try to cram as many words as possible into every single sentence. It is arduous to write, exhausting to read, a real chore and a bore… and yet I cannot help myself.

The winter thaw is when you really find out where all the bodies are buried in your neighborhood. And by bodies I of course mean giant dog turds.

At MACBA in Barcelona and am reminded how seeing art always makes me what to make art

I’ve been chatting with Agatha about a screenplay she gave me incredibly insightful coverage on, and she continues to impress with her depth of knowledge and clarity in response to my followup questions. Excited to be part of the community she’s building. Fellow screenwriter’s welcome!

I can tell you from personal experience that Agatha really knows her stuff.

As writers, we should always watch movies and TV shows to stay current with the market and learn new techniques and story engines. We want to know: what TV show have you been binge-watching? Write your recommendations below! #scriptsky

What was the first #horror film you ever saw and at what age did you watch it? Was it with a guardian's approval? Please share! #horrorsky #filmsky
