If you can be detained without due process for ‘moral turpitude’, I don’t think it is just those who ‘break the law’ need to worry about.

He isn’t just voting with the republicans, he’s literally whipping up yes votes on behalf of the republicans.

I’m so sorry, stranger. Having lost our 17 year old tortie last month, I totally get the fear/dread that creeps in when you find out about a health condition like this. I hope you’re able to treasure every moment with your kitty, however long the two of you have.

Heh. I hope everyone uses something like this.

Realistically, Livingstone or Curran seem like the best options, with Brook as an outside shout. But splitting the captaincy might be the smartest move to avoid burnout.

Just give it to Root. When England collapses, at least he’ll be there at the other end, watching it happen in real time.

Wait, what? It is 807. I’m on the 494 train and we’re still at Union Station in DC

This is honestly a great idea. Can we set up a collaborative doc of some sort so multiple folks could help edit/ add?

Tbf, are you even real friends if you don’t have some level of crush on each other 🙃

Welp. KL disappoints.

TBF, nothing against Axar Patel, I think he’s a fantastic asset. India sorely need a left handed all rounded in the middle order and he’s doing that job. I just feel like KL has a fair bit of good cricket left in him? But maybe I’m mistaken..

Also, since we’re talking about the #INDvENG cricket match, I am not a fan of KL Rahul continuing to miss out because they keep sending Axar ahead of him.. I feel like we must be waiting for Rohit to retire after the Champions Trophy following which KL will get the opener’s slot?

And to be clear, when I say my favorite captain it is simply because I vibe with his personality, even though I think Kohli and Dhoni were superior. The relaxing aura that he projects around him when he goes about his business is inspiring.

It is wild watching right wing conspiracies take over the global stage like this 😕

To anyone that mentions that the goal is to simply standardize rates to match private foundations grants: please know that that is a very misleading claim and there’s a lot more nuance involved.

The claim that private foundations use lower indirect cost rates is misleading. Foundations often allow project managers, lab space, IT, & data costs as direct expenses—NIH does not. Cutting indirect rates to 15% shifts the burden to institutions, hurting research.

And note here that I say “necessary” overhead expenses, because they truly are. Association of American Universities (AAU) did a study to compare the indirect costs between federal and private grants.

These foundations usually allow certain expenses, which the federal govt classifies as indirect, to be charged directly to the grant. This means that the indirect costs rate appears lower, but the total funding may still cover the necessary overhead expenses.

The NIH claims that the goal here is to ensure more funds go directly into research rather than overhead. They point out that many private foundations either don’t cover indirect costs, or cap them at around 15%.
This is a misleading claim, and here’s why.

Today, I am so disillusioned by the concept of the US that it almost feels like a core part of my belief system has been eroded, and I’m sort of trying to figure out what to do from here.

Also worth remembering that this isn’t something that came out of the blue. There was a proposal from the Trump admin to limit the rate to 10% in 2017, and that caused a fair bit of outrage and pushback.
The irony today is that I know a few researchers that rely on NIH funding who voted for Trump

And not just that, I am starting to feel like the public’s (social media’s?) reaction to literally any statement by the commentators is treated as something objective that needs to be ‘correct’.
It should be perfectly ok to say “huh, weird opinion Sunny G has there, but I disagree. Let’s see”
