Amazing! Congrats @synbiogaolab.bsky.social!

"This will go down as one of the darkest days in modern scientific history." Story on the decimation of NIH by @maxkozlov.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/d41...?

A hundred years ago, the average life expectancy was <50. Today, it is ~80. What made the difference? Public Health. Public health, however, is not some magic entity happening in a vacuum - it requires people. Without those people, there can be no Public Health. That serves no one. Wake up.

Maybe it's a good time to remind everyone that 40% of US Nobel Prize winners are immigrants. America benefits when we welcome global talent. When we block international scientists, we diminish our own future www.forbes.com/sites/stuart...

The NIH Scientific Integrity Policy has just been rescinded: how is that not incredibly concerning for the future of science and medicine in the US?!.... Excellent 🧵 by @carlbergstrom.com

Trying to make sense of the current situation, I put together some thoughts in an op-ed for @elife.bsky.social on what we, as scientists, can do – and what institutions MUST do – to protect science right now elifesciences.org/articles/106...

Hey fellow Drosophila researchers - if you haven't heard, the UMGC is offering ultra low-cost genome sequencing! See here to learn more: z.umn.edu/UMGC-MOSS #Dros25

Excited to launch the Autoinjector instrument at the @genetics-gsa.bsky.social Drosophila Research Conference #Dros25! This device automates microinjection into embryos for gene editing and other genetic manipulations. Learn more here: www.objectivebiotechnology.com

Great turnout at #Stand_Up_For_Science in St. Paul, MN!

Philly is out in full force to Stand Up for Science!!

Today's the day! Minnesota, let's show up and make our voices heard to support science!

I'm attending the Stand Up for Science rally at the Minnesota State Capitol this Friday, March 7th. Please join me in advocating for science funding and protesting the arbitrary and highly disruptive cuts to our nations' scientific agencies and research universities. standupforscience2025.org

Ok scientists & those who love science 🧪: here is another exhortation. Call Congress TODAY about the freeze on NIH Council Meetings and Study Sections. Emphasize that this means NO new grants are being funded & labs will soon start to shut down and fire employees. Phone numbers are at: 5calls.org

US science is under attack ‘Americans who value the spirit of discovery — and eagerly await new ways to confront disease, strengthen our economy and improve the quality of human life — need to issue a strong outcry.’ www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/o...

Check out our paper on genetically barcoded flies! The barcodes enable multiplexed behavioral assays that are read out by sequencing or can be expressed tissue-specifically to tag cells upstream of single cell transcriptomics. Artwork below by @mdonox.bsky.social - includes a scannable barcode!
