Here's the fascinating story of a great newspaper (and now global media company) that agrees with this premise - and is increasing revenue at the same time. nymag.com/intelligence...

It's a complex issue. Newspapers have all but disappeared from peoples hands. You barely see a newspaper on a commute now. We know social media is not a good place for journalistic integrity but it seems people are happy to accept dross and bias for their news. There needs to be a free alternative.

This post should get more traction as yet another example of "GenAI is just making up stuff and the big players want you to trust it with your life" @garymarcus.bsky.social

While that is a concern, you do need to be in the room with the echo. Most people have a phone that stays with them all of the time and also responds to wake words in the same way. If people have a phone yet complain about Echos they may be deluded.

There is no good argument for technology in voting beyond the most basic dumb terminals. Peoples right to vote must be paramount.

Only if told to do so - certainly "no" or "i don't know" or "I'm not sure" are things you will not hear from "i-must-give-an-answer" GenAI very often.

It makes you a better teacher when you realise that the "obvious" is anything but, and you have an opportunity to explain in a helpful positive way.
