It's a very simple method, and it relies on the willingness of people within a social hierarchy to blame the people at the bottom (who have very little power) not the people at the top (who hold most of the power) for problems.

It seems that the potential of the online space for progressive disruption has been squeezed. The potential of the digital realm to disrupt is still present—but that disruption is now in the service of the powerful, not the powerless. The potential to "go viral" is now algorithmically moderated.

Do users have sufficient expertise to access freely available hardware? Can they originate genuinely groundbreaking ideas if they're immersed in a stultifying culture? And is there a wider media context in which the insights and innovations they do create can actually make an impact?

I have no doubt that politicians (of any flavour) can only steer the ship in very limited ways. Disasters are almost inevitable. But even in that case, we must think about mitigatory preparedness NOW, not later. And we must start having proper, thoughtful conversations about democracy.

Or, "How do we stamp out corruption?". It may be that they're good people, but the media lens through which we see politicians is so distorted that they simply can't get big ideas across. Or does our current political system only have seats for duffers? In which case, how do we sort things out?

They sound like the absolute opposite of visionaries. If they're not actially reactionary, they're certainly reactive. None of them seem to have got to grips with questions like, "What will society be like with ubiquitous AI?" or, "How do we preserve democracy if nationality is irrelevant?"

I agree that there are damaging policies, some of which are frustratingly opaque. However, if they like, voters will always have the opportunity to choose even more damaging ones!

I hear you, but I disagree. The notion that voters simply make up their minds, and stick with that choice for years—identity based politics—is no longer valid. People have feelings and perceptions, but they'll remain undecided until very close to an election. That's when events—and money—swing it.😬

Fact check: it's two sentences. The second one starts, "HOPEFULLY…" and ends, "…GO TO HELL."—which does somewhat suggest the ravings of a madman who's completely out-of-control.

All the money. So they can do whatever they want, without anyone getting in their way!

Cool! I'd be very interested to hear who's speaking on what topics!

Crumbs! That's less than 20 miles!

Just out of interest, how far does she need to go, in what part of the country? I've been nearly satisfied by train prices Sheffield to Nottingham (about £16 a day) but that's off peak. It maybe saves me about £1 on car travel, with no parking aggro. But it's tricky when there's a technical failure!

It's performative. Individual rights are being sacrificed to manipulate public opinion.

The reasons that fascism is on the rise are systemic, not individual. If we let algorithmic incentives shape our online contributions into punchy confrontation (not careful analysis) they'll get more engagement, but run the risk of becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Oh, I do so agree! Say something! I also find accounts that wilfully fail to distinguish themselves from AI gibberish, on the grounds of "humour", or "too cool for sincerity" similarly frustrating.

I guess it is worthwhile considering how much less it costs to live in nations that have free, universal healthcare, government assisted social housing, and sensibly supported public services.

When you say "repairs", does that include setting the whole place on fire? I'm just wondering, because it does seem like you're taking an awful lot of gasoline out of the back of the van…

Farage can only attract grifters, and he can only appeal to the thoughtless. He seems to be unable to reach out to anyone else.
comment in response to post
Would it? Or would voting patterns change such that parties that have historically underperformed might have a more significant showing? Any government would, necessarily, be a coalition. Is Farage a great coalition builder?

Had to cross-check, to make sure this video wasn't a product of AI. Nope—it's real—extraordinary!
