I remember that milk bar! Mine was in the Dorcas St days of Beam, and back then Channel 7 still had studios there with sets for filming indoor locations (which probably explains his mood).

Unless I'm misremembering, that's the eye of Horus. Just as powerful and absolute as the eye of Sauron, but tempered by compassion.

When talking about art, people like when others say "we must do this". When the opinion is "trash everything and walk unfettered without rules" people fret as this implies that they and theirs will no longer have any control. Best not talk about it lest you upset folks.

Hey, given it was the '90s it's quite possible (indeed probable) the expression on my face wasn't all "peace love and mungbeans" either. ππ€£ It was a stressful time in general, and I'll cut him some slack.π

Peter Gabriel on backing vocals (which is kind of like saying "Jimi Hendrix on second rhythm guitar").

Yeah Lenslok. Possibly the stupidest and costliest anti-piracy measure ever. That elite on the spectrum survived despite that proves how good elite was as a game!

Yeah, the Amiga (and I think ST) version did have the quirk of making the players ship the slowest ship in the entire galaxy so you couldn't outrun anybody for any reason. And I could see what they were aiming for with Frontier (it had it's moments), but it felt too big, too empty, buggy, and rushed

It's similar down here. 50+ politicians, egged on by 50+ media people overseen by older managers, and the largest voting demographic is those below 45! Honestly, my generation needs to step back and admit it's not all about them anymore. And yes, I do realise how painful that will be.

Hope you're having fun down west Robyn! Snap on the SQW, and 'twas only stupid luck that got my wordle out before yours. Paradoxically you might be closer to my location now, than when I was in Melbourne a week ago! Alas still beyond coffee distance. And Happy Birthday for sometime soon.π

Elite is such a classic, forced into boxes it doesn't fit in. The original BBC version is wonderful, though stripped back compared to later versions. The C64 version is running on a computer not designed for wireframe, and the Spectrum version didn't really have the CPU power to sell the deal.

As I understand it even if the subs never turn up (and that looks likely according to an American defence report sent to congress) we still don't get a cent back. It really is stupidly biased in favour of the USA.

Chrissy Amphlett, Renee Geyer, Jeannie Little, and (in some ways) Lin Buckfield (back in her Electric Pandas days). When they stood at the mic, they weren't performing for you, they were allowing you to join in and experience their performance.

Primitive AI social media long before chatgpt, twitter, facebook or even myspace. Truly they understood the future of computing long before we did.

Like a version of Civilisation where you carefully dismantle empires and replace them with a network of independent city states trading in goods and knowledge.

It's an amazing game for ZX Spectrum! I managed to beat it by destroying the icecrown (the LOTR ending), but never managed to win as a war game (though, I'm told it's possible).

Hey Gen,
So sorry you've had to deal with that sort again. Really wish there was something I could say or do to help. Respect and peace to you, you're a remarkably strong person.

When we had a young extended relative staying with us for a while (because of reasons), we got him a kelpie puppy from the RSPCA in Portland. He named the pup Jack. The RSPCA person later told us, that for no explainable reason a majority of kelpie pup's are named Jack...

Unfortunately you still get the reply's, but just marked as "post hidden by muted word". Kind of like a modern "click here to see the whole thing" tease.

Oh heavens open plan lounge/kitchens never work in terms of maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout. Open plan anything rarely works. It looks great, but doesn't function particularly well in most cases.

Very nice eagle, and a birdie turning into a par on SQW is without shame (no matter the reason).

The JLN is kind of like a "not totally crazy" version of One Nation or [whatever name Clive Palmer's party is using this year]. Any party where a person is named, or doesn't need to be named is unstable by it's very design.

Indeed. There comes a time where people/groups/nations must be compelled to obey the law when other methods have proven useless. This is not done from hate or revenge, but to enforce that the law does exist and will be policed. Sadly, we are past this point with no action.

Back when I was growing up (in the days of the dinosaurs) "the smallest room in the house" was a euphemism for the toilet. ππ€£
It's 12, and feels like 7 down here at present, and that's better than this morning! At least we're getting some rain.

Israel has no legal rights over the maritime borders of Gaza, or (obviously) international waters. So if they have done this, It's against international maritime law and is legally an act of piracy. And not the jolly sexy Hollywood type piracy either.

I was ten years old and in primary school, and as I remember, the whole class stopped to listen to the radio broadcast over the school's classroom speaker network. I saw it that night, on the news.
