Fascinating piece on NHS resource allocation, clinical decision making & paediatric intensive care adc.bmj.com/content/earl...

Good news alert - though services haven't changed yet - & look what it's taken to get even this far www.hsj.co.uk/streeting-ba...

Need to see what Streeting's plan are here but certainly a widespread feeling that NHS England was not performing well enough for the scale of the challenge.

Right, here's an update on the community health services waiting list - that's the one govt is largely ignoring, axing the national objective to cut it last month. Data to December shows another rise (c2,500) in kids waiting a year or more for help, small fall for adults (c.200)

The number of people waiting for MSK services continues to rise. The number of people waiting more than a year for rehab is also going up. Lives being ruined, people falling out of work, health inequalities widening. Good work by @davewwest.bsky.social digging into the stats. #RightToRehab

Fun fact: here at UHSX we have delivered around a sixth of the total reduction in the national RTT waiting list over the past 12 months.

The government recently announced that after only 5 months in power, it has met its promise of 2 million extra appointments in its first year. What does this mean for the related pledge, to achieve 18 week waits by 2029? A 🧵

Statement from the former CEO, Susan Gilby. She says "The time for these behaviours to be acceptable within the NHS is over"

BREAKING The former CEO of Countess of Chester Hospital was wrongly forced out of her job in 2022-23, because she raised whistleblowing complaints about bullying behaviour by its chair - who is still in post - an employment tribunal ruled yesterday.

On Monday I tried to explain why NHSE and ONS were finding such different things for NHS productivity in the last year (see thread below). Today both orgs have published more details about how their measures compare. Another short thread…

The government has now responded to this letter -

This is an example of why the NHS can’t have nice things. A lack of trust, and knowing the cost of everything. Our ARI (respiratory) hub is a block contract, we’re currently at 189% contractual performance because our ICB trusts us and we reward that trust. www.hsj.co.uk/finance-and-...

Been chatting to neighbourhood teams up & down England & many identify “frailty” as #1 focus but tell me all patients are in last 1/2 years of life.
