It’s almost as if we have a manager wanting to play a system that ruins players hamstrings and/or a medical dept that is completely incapable of preparing the players for that style…

Funny, but hasn’t aged well

Ange, Lange, Munn, the sports science dept, Levy, Levy’s son, the stewards, the social media team, the graphic design dept, the go cart track admin, whoever books the musical acts, all of them, out.

It’s probably not right to change him now. And clearly the medical + recruitment teams are horribly inept, but Ange’s making it worse. And by his own admission it has at times been “unacceptable” in terms of the player’s attitude. Iraola is clearly a much better manager and we must get him in June.

Also, 13 points from the nine games VDV and Cuti started this season. 1.44 points a game.

League position = 15th. Google that. Good night.

Arsenal = low block, or at least a heavily defensive side that let us have the ball. United under ETH = even more tactically insane. If you’re claiming they’re a “good” side, you’re asking all the wrong questions. We lost to Liverpool and Chelsea. City could easily have won both games.

Yes. Bissouma was awful. Which is Ange’s fault, partly. And yes we had more shots. But Arsenal had a hat full of far superior chances chances and Bergvall got overrun.

First half injury time too.

Fine. Take your credit. He’ll lose it in the 2nd leg when despite scoring the first, we concede 4 stupid goals in the 17 mins after. 2 from long balls over the top to Gakpo, 1 Jota header from a corner and a nice finish from Mac Allister after Kinsky over plays in the 3rd minute of injury time.

On the whole we’re 15th. And in a month we’ll have only a Last 32 game in the Europa league and a relegation battle to look forward to.

We keep the ball against low blocks. We don’t find a way to keep it against quality teams.

Not when it matters.

2nd half?

Liverpool were the better side in that game. City should have been 2-0 up in the game we won there. United were on top when Fernandes got sent off. Iraola has worse players (even the injury hit squad is better) worse facilities, a worse stadium.

The league position backs up what I’m saying. A worse points total than Gross and Ramos backs up what I’m saying. Points lost from winning positions too. You can underlying stats with your never injured players all you want. He’s not good enough. He’s not the only one.

The tactics made it worse. He takes the FBs out of midfield and they get overrun. We played away at Arsenal with Bergvall in the middle on his own. It’s madness. It’s a kid on FIFA who’s lost the plot.
comment in response to post
Keep the ball then. Keep it away from your makeshift defense when you’re 2-0 up instead of relentlessly attacking. Even Klopp allowed his teams to keep the ball on occasion. And Ange is nowhere near the attacking coach that Klopp is.

Last 10 mins against Wolves. Mins 40-47 against Liverpool in the league. Second half at the Amex. Past 70 against Chelsea all prove you wrong

The squad is badly built doesn’t mean the manager is making the right decisions. Fix Lange and co and this manager still doesn’t get us where we need to be. He’s too tactically naive, too easy to work out and the players are too tired. He can’t win unless they run themselves into the ground.
comment in response to post
To be fair, I’ve identified a host of areas he’s lacking. Tactics, rotation, adjusments, ethos. Also, picking a manger that does well, doesn’t always work, but if you look at all the managers winning now, they won at their last club, so it’s a better option than picking a losing manager.
comment in response to post
I agree that the squad has been terribly built. Before the season started, we needed a CB, LB, 6, LW. But his job is to find a way to win or not lose those games. His first principle should be to get the club the best result, but it’s to attack. It’s a beautiful value, but it’s nonsense too.
comment in response to post
Europa league winning left back in an Emery team. Him of the academy left back playing that game and us losing to city is a better result than MVDV out that long. Look, the medical dept is also not good enough, but it doesn’t mean Ange is making the right decisions

I’ve managed a grand total of zero football games, so let’s not ask me. But Bournemouth do on occasion look to absorb pressure. They score goals from set plays. Iraola rotates cleverly too.
comment in response to post
Reguillon or Spence could have played there.
comment in response to post
And that’s worked brilliantly. How about just for 5 mins once in a game not trying to play offside on the halfway line? We’d have more points. And no one would be questioning his values.

IMO, they should break the bank to get Iraola as soon as this season’s done. We took his £60m striker off him and he’s made the team better. Both his strikers are missing and he won 4-1 at Newcastle. Proper manager.

Yeah, the avg is 69.4 points to get CL. So it would usually be enough. But that’s living in a world without injuries. And our ambition should be higher. Having no injuries to our CBs and we still probably finish 4th? Not good enough.
comment in response to post
How many of our injuries are impact? MVDV has had 3 hamstring injuries in 18 months. Ange himself said playing him at LB is a risk to his hamstring, but he plays him there in a Carabao game with two other LBs available. He’s part of the problem.
comment in response to post
The recruitment is shocking. The ambition is shocking - wages to turnover the worst in Europe - but that doesn’t mean Ange is doing a good job. If your system hinges on two CBs. Don’t risk them both in the same game. And if you’re missing players, adjust. Can any team expect to go without injuries?
comment in response to post
You can add Silva and Frank to that list.

2 points a match often isn’t enough for champions league football. The injury crisis is in part due to him, the avg intense runs is 50% higher than arsenal, not sustainable and the injury room shows that. Iraola, Howe, Nuno, Hurzeler all doing more with lesser squads.
comment in response to post
Too many post match interviews with “not acceptable” coming out the manager’s mouth. Too easy to play against. Average results with the best players fit. Terrible results without them. Couldn’t beat an amateur team in 90 mins. Has to go.
comment in response to post
I really want him to succeed, but tactically flexible coaches have figured out how to play against him. Poch suffered the same way. Iraola looks a far more pragmatic coach who wouldn’t require a squad overhaul - base system is the same
