It’s time to “stop arguing about when the crisis begins and start marshaling the will to end it.” @jenrubin.bsky.social in @contrariannews.org

Un-freaking-believable. See it for yourself at Covid.gov.

Just...wow. This is one for the ages. Get ready to be inspired by @hcrichardson.bsky.social ’s powerful keynote address last night at the Lantern Service commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride. (She is introduced at about 1:15:00 into the video.) vimeo.com/1074289056?s...

Put aside the lies and the open defiance of the Supreme Court, as well as the cruelty, and ask yourself: who talks like this? This is the *official* account of the *White House* - is it being run by a six year old?

“There seems to be a change in the air.” This is the most optimistic (or maybe least pessimistic?) letter from @hcrichardson.bsky.social in a few weeks.

Dear senators who think you can’t do anything, Today, Senator Van Hollen - through diplomatic pressure - got a meeting with Abrego Garcia in El Salvador. So that thing you’re thinking about doing? DO IT. ~ All of Us

I have wondered this myself. It would certainly explain the stubborn refusal of both governments to even provide any information about him.

Stock markets down badly today on the shocking revelation from Jerome Powell that tariffs might be bad for the US economy

WTAF?? Watch the entire video. This was a warrantless state-sponsored kidnapping without cause and without a warrant or even a semblance of due process.

Putting this marker down.

Kilmar Abrego García, a lawful U.S. resident, was detained by ICE—then deported to El Salvador. Despite the Trump administration’s admission of error, little is being done to secure his return to the States. As Brian O’Neill explains, the authority to bring him home exists. The refusal is political.

If what Trump said in the Oval Office today doesn’t send a chill up your spine, then you’ve forgotten what America is.

By the time major media agree that it's a dictatorship, it will be so far along that they'll be afraid to call it a dictatorship.

Yes!

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

This. Write your name in the history books on the right side of the ledger.

“Homegrowns” = US citizens. CECOT can hold 40k prisoners. So 47 is planning to remove 200k CITIZENS that he doesn’t like. This is truly Nazi Germany once again. Why isn’t there panic in the streets, in the media, and in the financial markets? It CAN happen here, y’all. It already is.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Presidents Trump of the U.S. and Bukele of El Salvador said Monday they had “no basis” to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongly deported there last month. No basis? Trump is treating federal law and federal court orders as mere trash. apnews.com/live/donald-...

What we all just witnessed had all the earmarks of a criminal conspiracy to deprive Abrego-Garcia of his constitutional rights, as well as an impeachable offense. The fraud scheme was a phony agreement engineered by the US to have Bukele say he lacks power to return Abrego Garcia and he won't do it.

🚨THE CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS IS HERE🚨 Last night, the authoritarian administration formally said it would not comply with a unanimous Supreme Court order. By even the most conservative definition, that's a constitutional crisis. @hcrichardson.bsky.social explains:

I wonder how the Supreme Court feels about granting Donald Trump immunity for official acts now that one of those official acts is telling the Supreme Court to shove their ruling and fuck the fuck off.

How do you know when it’s time to leave? Yale fascism expert Jason Stanley says we are already there.

🧵 IT IS HAPPENING HERE. The removal of Jews and other “undesirables” from German-occupied countries in the 1930s started slowly and gradually before the Nazis built a military-industrial machine to efficiently accomplish the task at scale. (Thread 1/5)

Stocks are soaring because it's always great when someone just stops hitting you with a hammer. But when they stop, the next step is to take the hammer out of their hands. Congress needs to take back its tariff authority. And we need to keep saying it until it happens, in this Congress or the next.

You set the house on fire, watched it burn, and then lost your nerve and put it out. You now have a partially burned house. Great job.

“Trump’s claims that Putin wants peace were belied when Russia launched massive strikes at Ukraine as soon as Trump stopped sharing intelligence with Ukrainian forces that enabled them to shoot down incoming fire.” - @hcrichardson.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

The United States is in a new Cold War with Russia. This one is being fought not with nuclear stockpiles, but through information technology. And this time, the President, his administration & Republicans in Congress are actively aiding & abetting the enemy. @hcrichardson.bsky.social explains:

MAGA: Measles Are Great Again. Yesterday saw the first US measles death in more than a decade, on same day that our Sec of HHS asserts that the spreading measles outbreak in Texas is “not unusual and happens all the time“ (false) & cancels annual conference to formulate this year‘s flu vaccine. 🤦‍♂️

Let’s get something clear. The GOP has the power to keep the government from shutting down in March. They control both chambers of Congress and the White House. If they can’t reach a budget deal within their own ranks, that completely on them. Dems: Don’t lift a finger to help them. Not one.

Here’s what is going on. When you start firing the military’s top lawyers, that means you are getting ready to order the military to do unlawful things. Trump replaces those JAGs with men who will justify any future unlawful and unethical actions that he wants the military to do.

President Trump’s purge at the Pentagon is a major step toward creating an officer corps personally and absolutely loyal to him, @radiofreetom.bsky.social writes. theatln.tc/3oq1fmSh

Murphy: "Donald Trump's contempt for the rule of law is unprecedented. What we are all watching right now is Donald Trump throw away the idea that laws apply to everyone equally. And it is astonishing to watch so many of my Republican colleagues fall in line."

The disturbing part of Trump declaring himself THE KING isn't that he did it, it's that his followers want him to be a king. They've completely abandoned the fundamental precepts of democracy in favor of total centralized control by a new American royal, because they both hate the same people.

A pattern of incompetence.

Posted by the official White House account on X today. (I captured it myself, so unfortunately I can attest that it is real.) Trump has anointed himself king. He’s not even pretending anymore. Every Republican legislator is complicit in the demise of U.S. democracy. x.com/WhiteHouse/s...

Maybe, just maybe, democracy is finally beginning to awaken. Gift link to the article: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...
