Hey, just go out to one of the Seattle golf courses on a rainy day and see all of the Seattle wimps using umbrellas. We have many on soapboxes trying to hide their addictions.

You know if you just buy a new printer it comes with an ink cartridge included. Cheaper than paying for ink cartridges alone.

That could have been my campsite. I used to spend about a week climbing there in September while I was a student at the UW. It was hazardous, every couple of days a another group of campers would put up their tents alongside a different lake. You could actually see them, it ruined the view.

That's the point. Been that way for the 39 years that I have been here. About 35 years ago was when I first tried Stinky Tofu ice cream. Didn't care for it (I'm basically a chocolate or vanilla guy) but others liked it.

You have to live here to appreciate the subtly of the pizza diversification in Taiwan.

I am also assuming that the person in the picture is @samleggs22.bsky.social, but again, I don't really know.

I'm assuming that it somebody's tomb, but who's? Or is it just a big rock? Having never been in Scotland, I don't have any idea of its significance. An alt text for the picture would have been very helpful.

My kids born in the late 80's (is the apostrophe ok?) grew up in Taiwan and never learned polish jokes. Do I need to send them back to school?

Ask the Cherokee and Choctaw how that went for them. Trail of tears.

When are people going to start reminding everyone that the US Government did this many times to Native Americanss during the 1800's. Remember the "Trail of Tears"

not seemingly used in the US, but the messaging apt LINE is used by almost everyone in Japan where it was developed, Taiwan, and South Korea. It is primarily for smart phones and is not as "efficient" on laptop and desktop computers.

I will keep repeating this for everybody who posts about this story, "Trump is repeating the 'Trail of Tears' in Gaza".

Trump wants to repeat the "Trail of Tears" in Gaza. How can anybody think that this is a good thing.

Has anybody noticed that at $6.00 per 12 eggs that each egg costs 50 cents. Basically the surcharge is paying for the entire cost of the egg. They have now eliminated one of probably their bigger costs for food to nothing. They are now making more money not just offsetting a cost increase.

Almost 20 years earlier Taiwan went through the SARS epidemic which while not as contagious as Covid was more deadly. Masks proved to be a strong deterrent then and were easily accepted by everyone during Covid.
comment in response to

So why were things so good at the beginning? Two major reasons. First the restricted entry as the only way in or out of Taiwan is by air. And secondly, the wide spread acceptance and use of masks.

Things then got much worse for about 6 months until vaccines became available.

Things got bad in late 2021 when some members of an air crew flew in from Europe and didn't fall quarantine rules in place for aircrews and visited some places with a large gatherings of people (a wedding banquet and a dance hall among other places.

Masks were required everywhere outside of your residence. All public buildings except for small "mom and pop" stores required a temperature check and hand sanitizing upon entry. By late 2021 we were down to less than 100 new cases of Covid per week in a population of 23 million people.

So, because we are an island, only citizens and permanent residents (and family members) were allowed to enter the country. They were required to stay in a quarantine hotel or approved residence (had to have their own room and bathroom) for two weeks.

Living in Taiwan I went through a completely different environment during the pandemic. The schools, stores and public events were not shut down. Working at home was not implemented to any degree. Vaccines were not available to the general population until 2022.

There is a small store in Montbazon south of Tours that makes very good rillons, rillietts, smoked beef, etc. They have a similar vending machine to sell their products when the store is closed. Put them together with a Pain vending machine and you have a complete meal, just bring your own wine.

When I arrived in Taiwan in '85 the copyright laws said that everything before sometime in the early 60's was in the public domain. All the great movies were available for about 3 dollars each with some boxed sets even cheaper per movie.

There is one going through congress right now for Taiwan. If any or all of these are laws passed by congress any doubling of taxes may violate US law.

There are agreements in place with many countries to reduce or eliminate the taxing of the same money by both countries. The US taxes all foreign earned income. So does France. This allows a French national in the US to offset the income taxes paid in the US from their French taxes and vice-versa.
