I just learned about a clever strategy that has evolved to address the cost of defense mechanism. Integrons allow bacteria to keep an array of defenses but only deploy them one at a time 3/n en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integron

ofc it could be a good norm to have an AI use statement to disclose how it was and wasn't used (e.g. "we did not rely on AI summaries of any paper or use AI for any of the code or writing; we did use AI while brainstorming, as a proofreader, and to suggest some further sources")

I suspect that if this becomes a norm, instead of something rare, it will be a lie 99% of the time. (If someone's *ever* bounced ideas off of ChatGPT related to their topic, they can't truthfully say this; but they'll find ways to say it anyway, like "that wasn't the real literature review yet.")

As I noted yesterday, the Court could have avoided any nationwide-injunction problem here by just expanding the question presented on the stay motion to include the merits factor and then ruling that birthright citizenship is mandated by the Fourteenth Amendment. bsky.app/profile/sbag...

(protected speech in a matter of public concern, no less, given fake de-extinction's role in Trump's plan to remove protections for endangered species!)

lmao they even literally quote the exact part where you disclaim it as opinion ("I can't prove"), ie unambiguously protected speech, in their attempt to call it defamation Ice Miller isn't sending their best

Why are you pretending the war lobby group "Foundation for Defending Democracies"—which even tried to stop Obama's 2015 anti-nuclear Iran deal, as not warmongering enough—is a credible neutral source?

also more generally I'm wondering if maybe NDP can and should start trying to get more prairie seats again, and this would be a chance to start bsky.app/profile/davi...

yes, but 1) I'm betting that's committed Liberal voters, but that Liberals are less likely to convert any Conservatives than the NDP are; 2) in a byelection with strategic voting less relevant, NDP may also have more of a chance 3) also it'll be funny if he loses again and this time it's to NDP lol

(plus in a byelection the PMship isn't on the line, so you might even get some who usually strategically vote Liberal)

(I didn't get your "except." I agree that most CSA is an opportunistic crime by predators who don't meet the clinical definition)

(This is the position of people like Cantor, whom I assume Singal got it from. Cantor has other problems but I don't consider this to be one of them.)

Note: the psychologists who call it an orientation are talking about the attraction itself, not about any actions. (They advocate increased social and mental health support to help non-offenders remain non-offending. A crime is still a crime and harming children is still evil.)
