Did you know that the “dark dimension hypothesis” suggests our universe might contain an extra spatial dimension at mesoscopic scales—potentially just a few micrometers across? youtu.be/3trCZghXTsE?... 4/4

He’s at the forefront of the swampland program, trying to assess which apparently consistent particle physics models can couple to a quantum theory of gravity. 3/4

In my latest interview for the ISQG (International Society for Quantum Gravity), I had the pleasure of discussing these and several other questions with Dr. Miguel Montero, from the Instituto de Física Teórica in Madrid. 2/4

The great challenge of nuclear disarmament is to move from "many" to "none" without passing through "few". It is an almost impossible task, but our very survival depends on it. We must find a solution. 2/2

I'm Italian. I've lived in Germany, the UK, and now Poland. This is my story – and I want to be on the right side of it. youtu.be/LIUoFuSuvTM?... 9/9

We have promised, promised, promised. We have complained about American interference. Fine. But political independence comes at a price. We must be capable of standing on our own two feet. 8/N

I invite you to stop treating all local instances as proxies of this or that superpower. And above all, I call on Europe to recognise the existential threat that is knocking fiercely on its door and to face up to its responsibilities. 7/N

I invite my anti-imperialist friends, for whom I feel great empathy, to recognise that there is also an imperialism of the current Russian ruling class. I invite everyone to celebrate Ukrainian resistance, today more than ever. 6/N

It has to do with the history of pan-Slavism, with a delusion of Euro-Asian domination, with the trauma of those who lived under Soviet rule, with the complex relationship between the former Warsaw Pact countries. It's an ancient, brutal, European story. 5/N

With alternating phases of intensity over the last few centuries, Russia has shown an ethno-imperialist drive. This is independent of American actions – and would continue for a long time if the United States were to disappear. 4/N

To deduce from the reliance on American aid that a dream of independence rooted in the history of Central and Eastern Europe is a US plot signals deep imperial thinking. It's a sick Cold War legacy obscuring the plain truth. 3/N

Like most resistance movements, it sought help wherever it could find it. Europe lagged behind: it was inconsistent, slow, and psychologically subjugated to the tsar, despite having skin in the game. I would have liked Europe to do more, to be self-sufficient. Sadly, this did not happen. 2/N

2. Many ‘free speech absolutists’ were simply, clearly, deliberately intoxicating the debate for pure propaganda. One of them is now the IT arm of this institutionalised war on science and intellectual freedom. This should piss actual free speech absolutists more than anyone! 4/4

What I wanted to stress, here, is that: 1. What’s happening in the US is orders of magnitude beyond anything we’ve seen in a very long time. I’m worried, sad, and furious. 3/N

And at least as many valuable positions to compare – both concerning the 'descriptive'(is there such a phenomenon? what are its features and size?) and the 'prescriptive' (what was good? what was bad?) sides of the issue. 2/N

Given the tone and content of your answer, I'm absolutely sure you're not the target of my critique. In this, I apologise for not having been more specific! However 'cancel culture' may be defined, I believe there are several interesting and non-trivial issues to be discussed. 1/N

I'll be jogging, but I can argue during the (numerous) pauses!

So, where does string theory stand? Why do so many physicists still bet on this approach? Could it really unify gravity and particle physics? To find out, all you have to do is go and catch up on my talk! 🧪⚛️🔭 5/5 #science #physics #communication #quantum #gravity

This is the spirit in which I have been now, for two years, working with the International Society of Quantum Gravity. And it is also the approach I tried to bring to the Royal Institution. I feel grateful, honoured, and privileged to have shared my metaphors in such a prestigious hall. 🧪⚛️🔭 4/5

My (foolish?) ambition is to deflate this toxic bubble, bring the debate back onto the track of common sense, and communicate quantum gravity with a transparency befitting the importance of this scientific enterprise. 🧪⚛️🔭 3/5 #science #physics #communication #quantum #gravity

Entropy has escalated beyond what is tolerable. And as all physics students know, reversing such a process is only feasible with a net energy flux from outside the system. 🧪⚛️🔭 2/5 #science #physics #communication #quantum #gravity

On a positive note, my writing is so chaotic it may actually spoil the training

You’re absolutely right! I’ve been coming here from time to time, in the last five years, but I’m extremely happy to finally settle. Polish museums are wonderful!

Just my frank opinion! Congrats for your work!
