Dude’s got the club!

Just saw a guy at Whole Foods sitting at the table outside eating a whole cake by himself and I couldn’t be more impressed

At the cemetery today and saw a whole family set up with tables and chairs and Mother’s Day balloons having a picnic with I assume their dearly departed mom… but um Mother’s Day is next Sunday so are they gaslighting mom like Shh she won’t know!

As most probably know, the WGA pursued discipline against a handful of writers for actions taken during the strike. Four have appealed the judgements and this week all WGA members can vote on whether to confirm or overturn the punishments imposed. Some thoughts:

I bought a lottery ticket this morning and must have dropped it on the walk home and now I’ve never prayed so hard to not win something

Went to see the new Marvel movie and saw trailers for Jurassic Park, Fantastic Four, Mission Impossible, Tron, Predator, Lilo and Stitch, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Superman. Original movies are back, baby!

Wait sunglass hut sells sunglasses that cost 3k?

Thanks for including me in this awesome list!

The path to your first TV writing job often runs through the Writers' Assistant or Script Coordinator chair. But how do people ACTUALLY land these springboard positions? It's a process shrouded in mystery for most early-career writers. Let me pull back the curtain... 🧵⤵️

We had a full house and talked about a whole range of subjects from capitalizing on general meetings to trimming a long script and more! Check out the recording, also available as RSS. www.patreon.com/posts/127597...

Given the times we live in everyone needs a go-to plan for what to do if someone (or the government) forces you to sign something you don't agree with. The key is to have a back-up signature that looks sort of like your real one but secretly protects you. My signature-in-dispute is "Denied Signing".

Everything you ever wanted to know about film formats and aspect ratios!

If the network asks for the fdx file it’s either really good news or really bad news.

As Passover begins, I am reposting my open letter to Elon Musk. I wrote it in response to his attacks on me and his suggestion that I suffer from “generational trauma.” It has been the most viral piece I have ever written and I continue to be moved by the positive feedback. Thanks and Happy Pesach!

Dear TV writers, The Writers' Guild of America West released their employment analysis of the 2023-2024 year and it's... pretty damn bleak. Almost half of available staffing positions disappeared in a year. This sucks. But also? This means it's not JUST you.

It's not just you, it's objectively a terrible time to find work as a writer in TV. 37% fewer TV jobs, that's 1,319 fewer employed writers. I wish I had some wisdom to offer to give you an uplifting pep talk but I can't think of anything at the moment.

I just received a text to donate given Sen. Cory Booker filibuster. I looked the PAC up; HOLD THE LINE is a Republican/conservative independent PAC that contributed >$20k to Donald Trump in the last cycle. Is this đź’© even legal?

Now that’s job security! “Yeah he shows up to work drunk but we don’t want to have to make a new sign.”

Come join the Seinfeld Mock Writers Room this Sunday at 11:00! Free to try, link in bio.

I’m loving this show. Some of the funniest one-liners I’ve heard in a long time, too!

Kind of defeats the point of writing complex hacker scenes when you just find this on your boomer in-laws’ desk.

Just saw a woman walking across Pico release a single red balloon into the sky and my first thought was Is someone making a student film?

When I worked on The Office, Greg Daniels had a list of questions he asked of every story. Some were show-specific (eg “Are we saying something truthful if exaggerated about office life?”), but many are applicable to any script. Here’s a little thread on them… 🧵1/X #Scriptsky #Screenwriting
