Well this sounds like fun! Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it but I’m sure it will be a triumph. 🎉

We’d love to see you there! You might particularly like the CFPs for the Theatre and Performance Histories group ‘Celebration’ and the Directing and Dramaturgy group ‘On Joy and Ecstasy’.

But also to catch up with colleagues I’ve known for years and to meet new ones. My highlight papers were on elocution, sculptures of actors, fairgrounds, gardening and games-within-plays. Clashes meant I missed some fascinating papers - one on queer clergy and another on Chinese fans and queerness.

I’m not 100% convinced but there are no other clues in the visuals other than this design of 13 stars with an additional one in the centre.

I started reading about US flag history and it seems that in 1795 the number of flags was increased from 13 to 15. But designs and numbers vary for a long time. Here’s a design similar to the pub emblem from the later 19th century.

I went down a rabbit hole with this one. I think it’s something to do with a version of the US flag that has 13 stars around the edge and one in the centre. The below is dated 1831-3 and has a circular design of stars similar to your image. This emblem is lost in later images of the pub.

Obviously not a suitable request for anyone except parents. Also backup things on the list were teatowels and a hairdryer with a long cable. Why doesn’t a Santa list exist for adults?

So true. Being a homeowner made our requests dull. This year - new knives and towels.

I’d love to catch up! Might be new year now. What days are you typically on campus?
