“I’m well and happy, and enjoying working with your mother, although it may be time for an O.S. trip. Perhaps France later in the year. See you soon, Richard.” I figure that’s where he is now. Out there somewhere, having a wonderful time on his next adventure. Perhaps France.

When I open my email, it sorts them by the oldest first and I’m always welcomed by this one he sent me in 2009 when he was working with Mum at Chandlers Hill Surgery:

Richard also loved to travel and wherever he went he made lots of friends. He never stopped planning his next trip. Even as he lay in his hospital bed in March, he told me he’d love to visit Spain again.

He was also a Le Cordon Bleu graduate so dinner at his place was always a treat. Whenever I was back in town, I enjoyed catching up with him for a coffee (or two) and a chat. He had a great sense of humour and knew all the gossip.

On my first trip to Sydney in 1996, Richard took my sister Alice and me to see ‘The Phantom’ and ride the monorail. He loved the arts and had exquisite taste. When I moved into my first apartment he gave me a Laguiole cutlery set and a Royal Albert tea strainer.

My earliest memory is visiting him in the Hyatt Hotel when I was about 7. He let me waste half a roll of his film taking photos of the trains from the window as they pulled into Adelaide Railway Station below.

Bizarrely only a couple dozen people were there watching. My Mum, Dad & sister jumped off the bus to watch. It was amazing. They ran through 3 songs & by the end a large crowd had gathered. A once in a lifetime moment for a kid from Adelaide. RIP Brian Wilson. youtu.be/ga76s_rMfFM?...

It was fun back when they put tweets at the bottom of the screen and politicians didn’t quite know how to handle the format

Mum went on ABC Radio Adelaide today and had a very interesting discussion about it. Podcast here (about 20 mins in): www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...

She’s worked as a GP in Adelaide for over 40 years and was one of the first doctors to be trained in Voluntary Assisted Dying in South Australia. She travels all over SA to assess people who are requesting access to VAD & has so far assisted more than 200 people in their VAD journey. Well deserved.

My old laptop isn’t new enough to upgrade to Windows 11 apparently

It’s quite appalling

Plus the new laptop itself is annoying. Not enough USB ports, no SD card slot, don’t like the keyboard layout, can’t remove the battery. Feels like a big step backwards

The folder layout, right click menu is different, menus not at the top of the folder, can’t seem to get rid of One Drive (I don’t use it. I don’t need it pinned to the quick access list)
