Clean coal is fraud. Fossil gas as a transition fuel is fraud. Carbon capture and storage is fraud. Carbon offsets to extend fossil fuels is fraud....

Juxtaposition of these two headlines ought to give @albomp.bsky.social pause. This existential problem will only get worse.

“If the land is excluded from Australia’s greenhouse accounts, the emissions cut since 2005 is paltry – just 1.3%. Which is a long way from the Albanese government’s legislated 43% target.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Bauhaus student Alma Buscher designed toys (1920s) which are still produced today, reflecting pioneering ideas about child's play #WomensArt

Dr Ken Mulvaney thought that once people realised how important the rock art was, there would be no more industrial development at Murujuga. Instead he's seen multiple new developments built, creating acidic emissions that are slowly destroying the rock art. #auspol

Need proof Big Gas is ripping Australians off? Inpex exported ~$54 billion in gas from the NT Inpex also HASN'T PAID A CENT in ❌Royalties ❌Petroleum Resource Rent Tax ❌Company Tax 🎙️ @richarddenniss.bsky.social #auspol

Christ ABC potential benefits?? Firstly they’re revealing how it’s actually a pretty small employer statewide (especially given the revenue). Also *past* royalties ..so what about future ones? Yeah not so much. And also Royalties are not a tax. Like saying Woolies is great because they pay farmers

Australia's largest oil and gas project will continue until 2070, making a complete mockery of fake aspirations for "net zero emissions" by 2050. This shameful decision was postponed until after a federal election, just 3 weeks ago. Nobody voted for this. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

Celebrations come in many kinds, but celebrating the largest victory the ALP has had since WW2 by asking gas companies to fuck them gently is weak and pathetic

As “climate refuges” dwindle to pinpricks, why is the reality-check always in the LAST paragraph? “But ultimately, the best intervention for the reefs is for global climate action that would limit the frequency and severity of reefs being exposed to heat stress.” amp.abc.net.au/article/1046...

Claims that North West Shelf (NWS) extension are necessary for firming electricity are pure gaslighting. NWS is about EXPORTS It exports more of WA’s domestic gas reserves than it supplies to WA. NWS = LESS gas for WA Receipts in 🧵👇 thewest.com.au/politics/fed...

It's nice & cool now. And we got some wonderful rain. But we keep getting called to fires (85 already in 2025, not incl strike team). This fire season has lasted 8+ months. This is what climate change looks like.

Every once in a while, I'm reminded of the countless stories that we have either lost or that are so unfamiliar to us that we don't recognise them. Especially when I see episodes of such stories in medieval art. [Cathedral museum, Santiago de Compostela]

A Cycladic idol, 2500-2000BC. During the Early Bronze Age figurines were made from marble on the Cyclades, islands in the Aegean Sea. The most common are female figurines with folded arms. Most of them were found in graves. The intended purpose of these figurines remains unknown. 📷me 🏺 #archaeology

Massive congratulations to @parentsforclimate.bsky.social for launching the legal action against EnergyAustralia and securing a landmark result: an apology for greenwashing and a commitment to direct emission reduction. Well done to Equity Generation Lawyers as well. Have a read:

While aspiring to reach “net zero” emissions by 2050, the Australian government is about to allow Woodside Energy to produce fossil gas until 2070. 🤷🏻‍♂️ www.news.com.au/national/pol...

Quite possibly the biggest climate story of the year (especially when we look back on this in a few years' time) For the first time on record, China's emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand...

"Special Envoy for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience" ie to work out what to do due to lack of work done by the Minister for Climate Change?

It's climate warming baby - and it's coming for all coastal communities faster than you think Queensland eh? And did QLD vote for urgent climate action or did they vote again for ideology?

Will Australia’s new government listen to the science? “Our national environmental legislation has largely failed to protect biodiversity, including many threatened plants, animals and ecological communities.” theconversation.com/5-things-we-...

I think a lot of Liberals will be working from home

Not so efficient, eh?

Sign of the day…

“What are you going to do for women?” “Nuclear power plants, Brian.” “I was thinking more in terms of work-life balance.” “Cheaper petrol?” “Really?” “Defund the ABC?” “You don’t know women what women want.” “I think I do, Brian. They want fewer restrictions for mining companies.” #auspol

“You said you didn’t know if climate change is real.” “Did I, Brian?” “Yes, you did.” “Well, that was stupid, wasn’t it? What was I thinking?” “Then, a couple of days later, you said it is real. Why the sudden u-turn?” “We’re getting hammered in the polls, Brian.” #auspol

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

I found another item for our fantasy museum store! This #Etruscan terracotta 'bucchero' wine jug is in the shape of a smiling siren. Black bucchero tableware was produced for the Etruscan elites in the 7th-5th BCE. Note the birds tucked under her wings. Late 6th c. BCE. #MetMuseum 📸 me

A new piece for @crikey.com.au ($) It isn't 2019 anymore. Australia's about to embark on an election buffeted by the physical reality of fossil fuels - yet somehow hugely disconnected from the deep urgency of their total elimination from society I take a step back and try to process this new era:

A month ago I thought that demanding Europe spend more on defence was partly a cynical way of making $$$$ on arms sales but he can’t even do that right
