Whit?

Can you remember the last time you got a bonus, folks? #BankBonuses #Netzero #ClimateChange

Trump has undermined the post-war consensus. It has never been clearer that Britain's future lies with Europe.

‘Every single thing he says is lies.’ @mrjamesob.bsky.social says Trump’s comments on Zelenskyy are ‘without precedent in the free world’.

Good morning. *Sees Trump now describing himself as a King* *Wonders when constitutional law will become boring again* *Makes very big coffee*

I would like to see a few British broadcasters read out every word of Trump’s latest ‘statement’ live on air & then remind us of their often lavish statements of support for him & then share some of their supportive words for Ukraine. And then we can all watch their brains explode…

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

BREAKING: Keir Starmer has spoken to President Zelenskyy and backed him after Trump’s attacks. “The PM expressed his support for Zelenskyy as Ukraine’s democratically elected leader and said that it was perfectly reasonable to suspend elections during war time as the UK did during World War II."

Putin says Trump must go further before he’ll even agree to meet. Putin is entirely in the driving seat. The US has alienated its own allies, given Russia nearly all of what it wanted, bought Putin’s warped view of reality, and can’t even guarantee a meeting. The art of the deal, indeed.

Am old enough to remember when Trump was going to strengthen the Western alliance. Those who said that are weirdly quiet tonight.

Dear god. Just seen what Fanta Fuhrer has said about Zelensky. I hate him with the power of a thousand suns. America is now the propaganda wing of the Kremlin.

Dark irony reaches a new, low as Trump parrots Putin in calling Zelensky “a dictator.” In today’s News Agents we answer: why does Trump want to regurgitate Kremlin talking points? Why is a Russia/US axis emerging? What is really going on here? Listen now. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

Put aside the nastiness of this post, & the way in he attacks Zelenskyy as a dictator but says not a word about his pal Putin, & just focus on the way it is written: would you hire this weird person to work for you? Would you trust this odd person to teach your kid in school?

What world indeed

From the other place…

Teachers need more resources.

"51 employees at CIA and the Office of Director of National Intelligence received calls Friday from their human resources office telling them to report to the visitors center at CIA headquarters in Virginia at 8AM on Tuesday with their badges and without lawyers..." www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

👏👏👏

A US president abusing state power to pressure a sovereign democracy to lift travel restrictions on two people facing rape and human tracking charges - simply because they're political supporters. The White House is fast becoming the global epicentre of moral corruption. www.ft.com/content/3f95...

You guys have fucked up so bad you made Quebec patriotic

I think we've reached the point where it's reasonable to call anyone supporting the Trump administration a quisling and an appeaser and we should reserve nothing but contempt and disdain for them.

Of course our risible rightwing reports Vance’s speech as a warning to us and a defence of free speech, rather than the excruciatingly demented diplomatic incontinence that it was. Happy to take this shit from a fellow authoritarian rather than face up to their own descent into ruinous madness.

When people see the maple leaf, they see possibility. They see freedom. They see a helping hand. They see Canada, and the best of our values. Happy 60th to our flag. 🇨🇦

There are some big flaws in Reform UK's anti-renewables policy: 1. Our high energy price is due to use of the most expensive source, which is gas 2. The fossil fuel industry received £20bn more subsidies than renewables 2015-2023 3. Most of the UK public is not against Net Zero

Patriotism? Sovereignty? No. Our Brexit populists don’t believe in any of it. Just harvesting hatred for power. Profiteering. Doing what they want and to hell with the country, the law, international relations and humanity. V good from @adambienkov.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/adambien...

As right wing media tell you that the Governent is doing nothing

Well this is entirely normal behaviour not at all fucked up. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Europe will not be part of Ukraine-Russia peace talks, US envoy says - The Guardian Err… Europe provides more aid to Ukraine than the US Ukraine is in Europe Time to tell Trump the Truth

Still internalising the Vance Munich speech. A sitting Vice President goes to Europe, barely says a word about the despotic murderous regime which has invaded its neighbour, and instead lectures his allies about freedom of speech. It’d be funny if it weren’t so serious.

He's right. The only people who don't want a 'European Army' are Mr Vladimir Putin and his apologists and useful idiots. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

National Flag of Canada Day!❤️

Europe can’t rely on the strength of the transatlantic relationship to help contain Russia’s threat – it must lead from the front and be the true force of support that Ukraine needs. Not just for Ukraine’s sake, but for a free and sovereign Europe.

Of all the daft 'opinions' that Brexiters could never explain or justify, opposition to a mooted European army was among the stupidest. Inevitably, Farage the Putin fanboy was the loudest heckler. Armies that you are actually *in* rarely turn out to be opposed to your interests...

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rejected “outside” interference in the country’s elections, insisting that Germans would decide their democracy for themselves, as he hit back at comments made by Vice President JD Vance

I’ve just woken from a nightmare where the BBC Today Programme asked whether J.D. Vance had a point. When US officials are being asked to sign loyalty oaths and agree that Trump won in 2020

Amazing how quickly the security element of 'Project Fear' turned out to be an almighty bloody understatement...

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

It is but on the other hand I'm quite happy for these guys to associate themselves with Vance, Musk and Trump as much as possible. Roughly as popular as herpes to the average UK voter.

Oh.

Free speech "is in retreat" in Britain, says JD Vance, who is part of a Government which is now targeting critical news organisations with politically-motivated investigations, while banning others from the White House for the crime of referring to the Gulf of Mexico by its actual name

Geopolitics is going through a psychotic breakdown as the old narratives of East and West, North and South, collapse - and new morbid symptoms - delusional myths of conspiracy, race and power - try to take their place. The only hope is to rebuild new narratives - from reality

Rachel Reeves looks to have been a bit silly but for journalists of a certain age to profess outrage at creative expenses claims turns hypocrisy in to an art form. When I started out, one legendary character was reputed to have put a son through Eton via bogus receipts. But my favourite story...

Striking that so many on the Reform tendency, who have banged on for years about the need to remember the sacrifices of WW2 and policed the wearing of poppies... failed to learn any lessons from it. You don't appease dictators casting shadows on your doorstep. You fight back.

Brilliantly put by @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

When people ask what Putin has over Trump, remember the Spycraft acronym MICE which describe the four key weaknesses which allow someone open to be being recruited M - Money I - Ideology C - compromising material (Kompromat) E - Ego All four are probably factors in Trump’s subservience to Putin
