My take on the Collared Pratincole, RSPB Frampton. Difficult conditions as the bird on both days I went, was always fairly distant & hunkered down due to the wind. So I put on paper, in biro, what I could see…. #ukbirds @birdguides.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social @rspbframptonmarsh.bsky.social

Went in search of fledglings. The woodland seemed birdless till the afternoon. Then it came alive with families of Treecreeper & Wren, helter skeltering round the trees. Nuthatch, Chaffinch & Great-spotted Woodpecker. Single Juvenile Robin, Song Thrush & Grey Wag. Pied Fly pair on their 2nd brood 🪶

I'm for this. #TaxTheBillionaires

Spotted next to two recently dug ponds/mini lakes in Cambridge. Feels like the city council may have listened to @davegoulson.bsky.social 🙂

2025 was a record breeding season for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker nests monitored by our volunteers. None failed & where we were able to check the nest contents the number of chicks fledged was the highest since we started the project in 2015. Full story www.woodpecker-network.org.uk/index.php/ne...

Being less lazy with #PatchBirding at the moment. Remembering how I used to love spending hours there, learning the common birds. It didn't disappoint today! Patch tick Common Tern. 2 birds displaying/breeding behaviour! Also 2 LR Plover, > Lapwing nos, 40 Marbled Whites & a few Spotted Orchids 🪶

Conservationists are warning of an increase in recent weeks of the nesting sites of endangered breeding waders, such as the curlew, being destroyed by dogs.

What a smart bird! Frampton Marsh, Collared Pratincole. Lucky to catch the 1229 showing & a great vibe in the hide. Nice to see Chet, @paolobolton.bsky.social & Miles. Good to meet Merv. Thanks for the lift to the station 🙏 #UKBirding

Second Bunting year tick of the weekend: Corn Bunting. Lovely, relaxed day in Scarborough (more Kittiwakes than you can shake a stick at) & Bempton. My first screaming Swifts of the year on the walk from Bempton station & Yellowhammers too. Love watching buntings sing 💛 #UKBirding

Cracking afternoon at Wykeham in spite of it being 2nd Friday in a row with 0 Honey Buzz. Ortolan showed well at 1340. Headed to raptor watchpoint: 4 Crossbill encounters, one a singing ♂️ on the walk to the bus. Siskins, Bullfinch, Yellowhammers, Willow Tit? Willow Warbler, lord of all he surveys 🪶
