Many happy returns Rob. Happy birding πŸ‘πŸ€©

That's amazing! Great that they tolerate each other. Thank you for taking the time to reply πŸ™

It should also come with a warning about driven grouse shooting, raptor persecution etc etc. If you've anything about you, then the joy of birding will also be counterbalanced by this other stuff

I've American friends that I chat with for an hour when one of them does a music show. Their cats are indoor cats & are part of the family. Unusually for here, my cat & I sat outside for hours today, him with his collar & lead. I watched a Blackbird eating a cherry in peace, Ruby-tailed wasp, etc

Any idea how this happens, Alan? Two species of parents birds raising chicks in the same nest box?

Me too! I took the sound off the video of the Prat that I shared but somehow, I noticed days later, the sound was on πŸ™„ Your soundtrack is funny tho. We all do it...tho I usually try to find the bird myself...we've all asked if it's showing and it's right there 😊

That soundtrack is interesting πŸ˜…

Definitely πŸ‘ I always missed the odd one that was seen there fishing, so to get 2 mating as a patch tick is exciting πŸ˜€

I've not noticed that behaviour with a common tern before. I guess as I usually see them in a tern raft. LRP looked impressed with the uncommon patch species too 😁 The other tern was ringed but just a metal one, which i can never read

That's a new phrase to me 😊 We don't really see spiders in the house much anymore. The cat dispatches them, I think. Cellar Spiders do okay πŸ‘

Wow !! That's amazing πŸ‘ I knew that a couple of species migrate in, but I had no idea about white butterflies. Especially not those numbers

Love that stone turning πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I like that the article connects observing birds with building a strong, protective bond towards them too πŸ‘ Stuff that all makes sense when it's put into words, but it needs saying too.

This is good. Birds learn by trial & error or by following more experienced birds. The latter will, of course, be learning by trial and error etc etc

That sounds perfect. Thanks Steve πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Very adaptable πŸ‘

That's good news re the colony. It fascinates me that birds learn in that way, with breeding, etc. They seem so driven by instinct otherwise. Bird's ability to learn is something I'd love to read more about. Not the astounding stuff, just the everyday growing & developing that they are capable of.

I found a couple of snaps from 2023. I went to check the roofs/rooves last night. A slight detour between 2 pubs 😁 A fair few adult & immature LBBG with a few Herring. I couldn't see any sign of nests or young sadly. I do hope the other chicks do better, Jon. Are the chimney nesters first timers?

Aha, an old name for Heron. Also harn, hernser and hernshaw. I shall have to call Grey Herons Hernshaw now 🩢

I learned a new word reading that: 'enshittification'. It reminded me of Charlie Brooker's 'shitifying'. I think I've spelled those right. Bonkers that there are British Airways ads mixed in

Wow! That's incredible! Well done πŸ‘ I'm pretty sure it flew past me yesterday from north of 360 to reedbed. But I was like, what the flip was that? πŸ™ƒ

Was it?? Crikey!! I would've thought I'd seen you since. I was 'compulsive' life listing until October 2023, if that's the right word πŸ˜„

Great bird! A very nice improvement on my previous individual πŸ‘Œ

Gorgeous! I didn't catch up with any during the influx sadly. I visited Ouse Fen but there were 66 Hobby reported there that day. Very enjoyable to watch but πŸ˜΅πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« I did spot a tiny wader but also πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅ in that heat haze! A day when my skills just weren't up to it!

Ditto re Spot Flys and more. That is such good news re Spotted Flycatchers !! πŸ™Œ

Don't know if that came out right. I meant that the species should be doing well. Rather than talking about ticks πŸ˜”

Leafcutters? I once watched one making a hole in the top of a fence post at Frampton. I went back a few days later, and it was all neatly covered over πŸ˜πŸ’š

It feels wrong to reply with a ❀️ I'm guessing you mean Corn Bunting. I'm mindful when struggling to find them, that it really should not be this way !! 😀
comment in response to post
They so are !! I thought I was getting somewhere with this birding malarkey but that was 4 years ago πŸ€ͺ

Aforementioned Swifts & a phonescoped clip of the Corn Bunt. A lot of breezy noise, but hopefully you can see the seed hole moving πŸͺΆ
