Anyone paying any attention knew this… Also, nearly half of all homes pay more council tax than Buckingham Palace …including a 3-bed terraced houses in Blackpool Council tax reform now.

Poorest fifth in England pay 4.8% of income in council tax; richest fifth 1.5%. 27% real term cut in council funding since 2010, govt hand tax cuts to corporations/rich. Poor hit with regressive taxes VAT Fuel duty Wages taxed at higher rates than dividends, capital gains. Need tax justice.

Despite what the press tells us, the government is very busy, often doing popular things. But you wouldn’t know it from the press coverage. By @stephenmcnair.bsky.social

🇬🇧 The stone raft: stubborn isolationism or an EU reset Starmer seeks an EU reset, but sends mixed signals to the EU on trade and alliances, and clings to US ties.

I like that he posted a picture of a print-out of the email.

Nothing from this weasel who stalks Rachel Reeves' LinkedIn account about the 2 million extra NHS appointments delivered by Labour. #ukpolitics

2019-2024: £44bn lost to fraud in UK Govt depts under the Tories - often run by members now in Badenoch's Shadow Cabinet. Contracts for cronies, PPE procurement, COVID loans & furlough scheme, Eat Out to Help Out, R&D tax credits. Ministers ignored concerns. Who is called to account?

At home, Trump has enabled Musk to stage a coup against the government with his army of unvetted stooges taking over the Treasury. Abroad, he's shut down aid & canceled malaria/ HIV programs & put 1000s of lives at risk. Meanwhile, top Democratic leaders are tweeting about egg and priza prices. 😠

Emma Trimble, "1 in 12 people in London are illegal immigrants" Professor Jonathan Portes, "Emma has taken that figure from a story in The Telegraph.. That story was a lie.. The Telegraph has corrected it, The Times has corrected it.. The Sun has corrected it.. And The Daily Mail has corrected it"

No, Brexit could never work. It was a terrible lie missold to people who deserved better by crooks and chancers. Take some responsibility for goodness sake.

Greenland would now vote to join the EU. I wonder what's caused such a big shift? 🤔

British people now dislike Elon Musk more than ever with more than 7 in 10 having an unfavourable opinion of him. Even Reform voters are now turning against him

As turmoil hits the markets with the UK being hit harder than most, Chris Blackhurst looks at why saying Brexit is to blame for much of the difficulties we are in is still a taboo and why unless we confront that reality, Keir Starmer will find it hard to move on www.independent.co.uk/news/busines...

“With Labour maintaining a single-digit lead in the polls at the best of times and not having risen above 30% since October, there is every chance that Reform UK could take the lead.” Nigel Farage’s party poses a great threat to Britain’s future | James Jobson

The claim that Musk would like to buy LFC did not go down well with fans. Elon does not have a good enough track record as a businessman for this particular fan | Craig Melia

There's some rewriting of history going on today where people are saying: oh, Labour is struggling with the economy too, maybe it wasn't all the Tories' mismanagement...? The answer is that it's Brexit. It's Brexit! You can't fix the economy until you confront Brexit!

Brexit funder Arron Banks can't get a visa to the US. Wonder why? Something raising security issues in your files, Arron? 🤔

2016: Nigel Farage says MEPS have "never done a proper job in your life" 2025: The people of Clacton must be proud that their MP who doesn't hold in person surgeries, like every other MP in the country, manages to find time for nine jobs

So concerned were the Reform MPs at child abuse, as they claimed, that none even bothered to turn up to the Commons debate. So notes Pecksniff, East Anglia Bylines acerbic diarist. Read this and his cutting views on other news stories from this week. ⤵️

You have to admire the chutzpah of Ted Cruz attacking Karen Bass and Dems in LA right now. Ted Cruz wasn’t on an official trip out of town when Texas snow storms hit & shut down his state - he fled to Cancun AFTER the crisis began, to stay at the Ritz & have a nice time. 250+ people died in Texas

Trump, Musk and Zuckerberg have declared war on facts and truth. The pushback must start now @emilybell.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Nazir Afzal, "When Keir Starmer and I left the CPS we had the highest rate of child sexual abuse prosecutions in our history.. That is Keir Starmer's legacy" "Boris Johnson said that investigating child sexual abuse was money spaffed up a wall"

Zuckerberg went super homophobe the same week he started publicly sucking dick.

Republicans are now preparing a “menu” of services to cut to pay for Trump’s planned tax giveaways for billionaires. Their plan includes cutting Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and infrastructure funding.

I’ve been investigating child sexual exploitation for 12 years, and commissioned other journalists to do so, while Laurence Fox was swanning around on TV and stage. He doesn’t care about victims. He’s exploiting CSE for his own daft ends

A left populism could be a gamechanger. Farage’s narrative relies on those targeted by it not knowing the power he and his cronies wield. The left need to reframe these arguments and show that, while it may be “us versus them”, “them” includes Reform, Farage and his rich mates.

The Labour government has been busy, pursuing popular policies. But polls suggest that most voters have not noticed. Many think they have achieved nothing much. Stephen MacNair considers some of the issues they have been tackling. How good is the record?

Yep.

Schools in England face ‘death by a thousand cuts’. Despite recent increases real college funding per student aged 16 to 18 in 2025 will still be 11% below 2010 levels, and 23% lower for school sixth forms. Future sacrificed to appease the rich. Tax the rich. www.theguardian.com/education/20...
