The Olympic Plaza Transformation project got a little more beautiful with new works of public art along the construction hoarding representing transformation and renewal.

This removal of park space in the name of sponsorship dollars really misses the mark. As we are seeing residential redevelopment increasing in the west end of downtown #yyc, these park spaces need to be accessible and not designed purely for single events. www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/vide...

This is an incredible initiative that is beneficial for everyone involved. It provides support and opportunities for employees and those using the facilities, and provides much needed public washrooms. A win all around 👏 www.ucalgary.ca/news/student...

School pickup/drop off zones are the laziest of policy failures

In addition to voting against aligning policy docs and subsequently preventing homes from being built, council decided to throw out updates to infrastructure priorities housed in the appendices. This seems to be a result of politicking and, once again, short-changes our inner-city communities.

🔥2021 Lytton, BC 🔥 2023 Lahaina, HI 🔥 2024 Jasper, AB 🔥 2025 Altadena and Pacific Palisades, CA And these are only some of the towns destroyed by wildfire in recent years. When are we going to wake up?

My post secondary teaching breadth really continues to diversify. The joys (?) of a broad research background and sessional instructing.

This is the most frustrating part of all of this. We (the city of Calgary) have policies and plans in place to fundamentally improve how we can safely get around in the city. Problem is, we fail to follow and use those policies to make improvements.

Courage.

The bus.

Very excited to see some of my PhD work published after much (much) too long! Using mesocosms and controlled ponds, we manipulated ice cover conditions and looked at the corresponding DO, light, and chlorophyll-a regimes. aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Please stop pointing your downspouts to drain onto the sidewalk. As everything melts right now, it creates wildly slick ice when it can't drain off the sidewalk.

In my latest writing on my substack, I attempt to scratch the surface of the need for a rapid build-out of safe walking and wheeling infrastructure. Especially connecting to community schools. https://open.substack.com/pub/dbinyyc/p/getting-kids-to-school-safely

This is an everyday occurrence in Calgary… Driver hits person walking in a crosswalk, then @calgaryherald.com writes an exonerative toned article. #calgary - truck hit pedestrian - speed not a factor - driver remained on scene calgaryherald.com/news/pedestr...

Happy 2025 everyone. Here's to a new year with new opportunities. Let's make this year the one where we improve public discourse, take meaningful action on climate change, and meaningfully address the most pressing humanitarian/societal challenges we've ever seen.

"It is baffling given the immense population growth in places like this the city wouldn’t pre-emptively implement some infrastructure to encourage safer driving and help keep pedestrians out of harm’s way" Just a reminder that if you are not in a car in Calgary you are not worthy of protection #yyc

As part of a weekend adventure this summer, we stopped by to see the fabled gopher museum. We were not disappointed. Perplexed, perhaps, but definitely not disappointed...

The Calgary Zoo Zoolights never fails to impress. So lovely. My photos don't do it justice, especially when I forget to take many!
