Some images from Chicago and 38th streets, where it started. 📷 #photography #WordsOverWindows

Starting maybe 2 days ago, I can't log in to Bsky on my desktop unless I disable all No-Script protections for that tab. I had already allowed everything No-Script blocked, it showed a clean "S" in the Firefox status bar, nothing blocked, but Bsky failed to log in consistently.

Suddenly can't log in from the laptop, several browsers, Ava this phone app doesn't support much. Bah

OK fans of Bujold's Vorkosigan series, this is a fanfic in the form of a reddit AITA post. Spoilers for GENTLEMAN JOLE & THE RED QUEEN. It is very, very, very funny. Also, of course Miles is TA. archiveofourown.org/works/506740...

Just got email from the president of the college I graduated from with the subject line "Warmest holiday greetings". I think there's something about winter in Minnesota that the PR team there may not know!

Catching up a bit on photos I passed, and clearing the decks. 📷 #photography #WordsOverWindows

The Fancyclopedia 3 article on Richard E. Geis contains the line "Throughout all this period, Geis' fanzines were full of highly opinionated, inciteful, argumentative and entertaining material." Usually I'd assume a mistake for "insightful", but I suspect this is deliberate. It's appropriate.

"Our business, then, is to open our trenches upon ground some hundreds of yards above the level of the sea.” -- not in Florida it's not! No ground that high there. (Verne, From the Earth to the Moon)

Just a typo, I think (not sure whose). In a Gutenberg ebook of From the Earth to the Moon (Jules Verne), the Cambridge Observatory gives the necessary projectille velocity as 1,200 feet per second. The right answer is 10x that, and it's right elsewhere in the book.
