Trump was convicted by the jury but he was not a convicted felon until last January.
So that "conviction felon" before then was untrue media nonsense to damage his rep, although it probably helped him.

Due process is the legal procedure to determine crime, if any, a person is charged with and to mete out appropriate punishment if he or she is found guilty.
It is NOT necessarily a court trial with jury process.

The US Supreme Court ruled that Trump does not have to bring the guy back but the government does have an obligation go assist in returning him if he does have a chance to return, to be quickly ruled an illegal and booted back to El Salvador.
