Former Republican. Never Trumper. Mom (for actual liberty). And when I'm not watching democracy crumble: photography, travel, science, astronomy, anthropology, nature/outdoor adventures.

If disease starts spreading in the big cities, perhaps people should take to convalescing in the countryside...

Precisely this.

"Wonder why?" Probably because for the last four years we had a President more concerned with doing his job serving the American people -- within the confines of the law, at that -- instead of golfing, destroying the Constitution, and being an insufferable attention whore.

A few have done that, only to get put on Administrative Leave/forced to resign. Trump is sanctioning this, even if it's illegal and unethical. And right now there's nobody to really stop Trump.

The mom in me wants to grab them by the ears, take away their devices, and ground them for life. And while I don't believe in spanking, I could be inclined to make an exception here...

I miss the days when the obscenely wealthy used their money to create libraries and museums, or go diving for the Titanic or looking for lost civilizations, instead of destroying countries and ruining people's lives.

I hope they know that many, many of us -- probably the majority -- are just as confused and upset, and want nothing more than to express our appreciation and continued friendship with Canada. But we've been hijacked by domestic terrorists.

Not only does that water not go to SoCal, that water is needed for farmers in the spring/summer. It's been a dry year. And those same farmers have been complaining loudly for years about water issues (while also loudly supporting Trump). Their guy just directly screwed them to pretend to be a hero.

Yep, looks it was the cloture vote where Padilla voted yes.

I know quite a lot of Republicans (myself included) who said "enough" at some point between Trump's nomination in 2016 and J6. Many of them are being vocal and taking action, and have been for some time. It's the MAGA cult that's too entrenched and brainwashed who are left.

The irony is that this is going to hurt CA farmers. If you drive through the Central Valley, there are signs everywhere blaming Newsom for not enough water for farms. Plus lots of pro-Trump signs. But Trump just sold them out in a dry year so he could pretend to be a hero. FAFO

I am your constituent in CA. I'm doing everything in my power to not lose it. Are you? Because it feels like you aren't. DO something!

Based on similar claims by Dems in the past, I imagine they're all busy submitting edits to the Strongly Worded Letter they intend to release in a few weeks.

Padilla and Schiff both voted no on him. I'm also in CA so I'm watching them closely.

I wrote to my senators (both Dems that I expect will vote "no" anyway). But also included Russell Vought in there, because we don't need the guy who wrote Project 2025 heading up the OPM either.

I would love to know if there was anyone in the pipeline to fill those vacant positions who got held back in the process due to Trump's hiring freeze.

This is unbelievable. I hope there's a full investigation on how this could have happened, and how to prevent it from happening again... But Trump gutted the entire Aviation Safety Advisory Committee, and has been threatening ATC jobs, so...

Curious what other terms are attached to the buyout... like limiting the ability to sue (especially if certain types of people are being pushed out over others), or be hired in other Federal positions, and if there is any continuation of benefits, etc.
