I was fully prepared for Free Riders to not even get a passing mention in this game, and it's one of the actually good tracks from that game on top of it.
Now we just need something from Zero Gravity to complete the trifecta 👁️

As we approach BR's 1-year anniversary, I am PRAYING that we get some sort of acknowledgement or indication that there is a future for this game on other platforms. I love Banana Rumble with all my heart and I want this game to be the best it can be with nothing holding it back.

The only way I ever see this mode thriving, both for speedrunners and online, is if this game gets ported. Switch exclusivity hurts Banana Rumble in so many ways that I can't even describe, and I think it has drastically reduced this game's chances for success in the long-term.

It hurts me to see a game mode with so much potential be held back by the decision to keep this game on a platform it was clearly not optimized for. The same can safely be said for so many of BR's more promising aspects, but Battle Mode is where this is felt the most BAR NONE.

To put it into perspective, the recent Race ILs I've shared? Those were the first recorded times for those tracks.
EVER.
SINCE JUNE 2024.
Race is so unattractive in its current state that nobody has bothered to explore or route these tracks in ALMOST A WHOLE YEAR.

There are so many obstructive game design decisions and performance limitations that make Race and Battle Mode borderline unplayable, and I cannot in good faith defend these modes the way they are. There is virtually 0 interest from runners in pushing it forward.

You cannot turn CPU off in 1P/Local, meaning in the middle of time trial runs, CPUs can kill your runs by messing with your lineups at the start, or using unavoidable items that intrude upon the time trial environment for Race.

For a Switch exclusive, Battle Mode is HORRENDOUSLY unoptimized for the console. On top of that, it is absolutely barren in the areas of Options and Customizability. Race has no Time Trials (literally the only Race side mode in the ENTIRE SERIES to not have this btw).

- 30 FPS locked (even though modded Switch 1s are perfectly capable of running a comfortable 60)
- Baked-in input delay, even in 1P/Local (WHY.)
- No Time Trials
- No CPU Off Option
- No Item Toggle
- No Instant Retry (Restarting attempts takes 30-45 seconds)
Among other issues.

I've been posting a lot of Race clips recently and while it's nice to push some of these courses forward, I need to be real: this mode SUCKS to play in its current state rn.
I do not see myself putting more time into this mode unless BR receives a performance patch or PC port.

FR though this game is awesome. Super fun indie marble roller with a really unique gimmick and online multiplayer support! There's a free demo with 20 playable stages so please give it a shot and support the creator!

There's definitely a balance to be had with it! Restraint is very important when it comes to cartoony squash-and-stretch animation, and I think the sleek sharpness of modern Sonic's design demands that sort of balance. I think this example has that balance figured out perfectly x.com/NooB_B3D/sta...

The animation tests in here aren't perfect imo, but I think they work great when it comes to showing the impacts of overshooting and more exaggerated posing. I think once they can figure out how to efficiently hone in on that, they can really drive up the appeal of 3D Sonic.

I'm indifferent to Challenge Mode. I know that a good chunk of the SMB fanbase values it greatly and were turned off by its exclusion in BR. I do wish there were some options to incorporate/incentivize lives in SMB again, but it's certainly not a make-or-break for the game in my eyes.

With this info, @iswimfly.bsky.social quickly dug up the Main Menu enumerator, revealing that Challenge Mode is indeed present. However, it is marked as obsolete, alongside what appears to be an early Memories tab titled "Gallery".
Safe to say it will likely not be touched in the near future.

Each of the menu subcat sprites has a single letter in the monkey language (credit to @chongosky.bsky.social for the decoding), the first initial of the submenu it takes you to.
The unused icon starts with "C".

Signs of Challenge Mode's development were found early on, appearing in a text string bundle for Course Categories. Up until now, this was the only indication we've ever had of Challenge Mode's existence but it's evident that there's more to this than we thought.

MARIO KART WORLD
⭐️ 7/10
Yeahhh... it's fine but I'm not really liking this direction for the game, and I certainly don't think it's worth $80. Artstyle and soundtrack are SPECTACULAR but there's a bit of gameplay work that needs to be done here.

DUNGEONS OF AETHER
⭐️8.5/10
Finally decided to give this one a try, and it's pretty good! I'm not the biggest strategy game buff but I really like how the battle system and characters are handled here. REALLY love the MCs and how this game expands the world of Aether.

You unlock enemies by getting hit by the Kamek item, which is a rare occurrence, and turning into them, which you have no control over.

and for the record I'm happy Unleashed is getting this much representation. It deserves it, but I'm hoping this kind of love is spread to more lesser-explored games/series across the board!
comment in response to

IMO if Unleashed, a single game, can get 3 tracks to its name, then surely we can give more flowers to an actual racing series that's being acknowledged for the first time in over a decade.

AFAIK the only Riders track we have so far is White Cave, which like, cool! I just have a hard time believing this is the only track to represent a series that spans 3 whole games. There's so much to pull from the Riders series and I want to see more of it in this game.

TBH I would hold out a little bit longer. The 1-year anniversary of the game is coming up and I'm feeling like they might wanna announce something for the occasion, but it's a shot in the dark rn.
Wait for the game to go on sale, as it so frequently does, if you want to get it for Switch 2.

9-10 Angel Ladder runs at a consistent 60 now too! The final boost panel section no longer tanks the framerate to the ground! Performance is so good that I improved the WR time with it LOL

Stages with notoriously bad frame drops on Switch 1 now run at a consistent 60FPS. It’s beautiful.
Examples include 3-6 Wormhole Branches and 4-EX6 Secret Portal.

Sonic Blitz is a card game that was just announced and released in the Philippines for testing apparently. Dataminers found that the game has quite literally every conceivable Sonic character you could possibly want in a game as a card, extending as far as the Archie comics and TV shows.

Even more characters have been found through text strings. Cross-posting from Adri’s posts on the other site.

This list is NOT final at all. More characters are being actively discovered and put together. If you're on Twitter, please follow the dataminers listed below who I've used as my sources to keep all of this info in one place.
