Please please share widely #TransSurvival

We MUST teach autistic young people to say NO. A clip from my speech at Wokingham ASSIST's 20th anniversary celebration earlier this month.

You know the world is on the road to ruin when those who seek to make it fairer and more equitable are seen as the enemy.

“anxiety arising from uncertainty is often a perfectly rational response for autistic children and young people. Reducing that anxiety must start with identifying and addressing the causes of uncertainty.” @jopavlopoulou.bsky.social , with @lauramaycrane.bsky.social, Russell Hurn and Damian Milton.

I am writing an Autistic burnout course with Tanya Adkin and Kelly Mahler! We want to include and draw upon the experiences of Autistic people and their loved ones. Please could you do this anonymous survey? https://buff.ly/40ejc15 #AutisticBurnout #MentalHealth #ActuallyAutistic

The importance of hearing what parents tell us in education

#DoubleEmpathy problem ( Dr Damian Milton ) If everyone in society understood this concept, it would be a momentous change , a shift in society’s perception. I absolutely love speaking about it. It just so happens there’s a video with #Aucademy www.youtube.com/live/uJSboFM...

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope that the next few days brings you most of what you want and all of what you need. And if Christmas is a tricky time of year for you, I really hope that it passes quickly and without incident. Sending love and the warmest of wishes to you all this festive season 💜

If food related Christmas traditions don't meet your needs, then rip 'em up and start again!

Just been having a look through Jodie Clarke's latest book 'Young, Autistic and Burnt Out' and it is fabulous. I'm SO glad autistic young people now have this resource at their disposal to not only guide them through autistic burnout, but to show them that there is a life on the other side of it.

Huge respect to Emma and the team for handing this letter to Wes Streeting. Our trans youth need us to stand in their corner. Please add your name to the letter (follow the link in the post below) to challenge the ban on puberty blockers.

@autisticrealms.bsky.social @sarahjanecritchley.bsky.social Can you share this please ?

There's still time to register for @petewharmby.com's talk this Thursday evening from 7-8.30pm. Pete will be talking about Making an Autistic Living. As always, the talk is free and everyone is welcome. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/making-an-...

In today's research on autism, reading all the papers that claim that IVF may 'cause' autistic people. Can't find even one team that ask whether one or both parents is autistic. Factors for infertility typically include age (e.g. autistic people may marry later) or/

It’s disheartening to see lots of white starter packs, including in #autism. As many people know, this contributes to underdiagnosis, stigma and isolation It would be really nice to elevate voices from the #BIPOC community and feel less alone ❤️ Would love to start my own pack - any suggestions?

It’s happening! The Autistic burnout network conference May 17th 2025 Registration at www.autisticadvocate.co.uk/autistic-burnout-network

This is really important work highlighting the parental blame faced by parents of autistic children. Our autistic young people and their families deserve so much better. We have such a long way to go to create a world that understands and includes rather than judging and blaming.

Online event on Dec 10th. A sort of open mic night for autistics to share their passions and autistic joy. What's not to love?

No, I’m not ‘with autism….’ It’s not a bag I carry around or a puppy that follows me. I have an autistic brain, which, btw, I am proud of! I’m autistic. Neurodivergent and proud. ❤️

If you live in reach of Reading and are autistic, or think you might be you are eligble for our upcoming "Exploring Being Autistic" programme starting in January on Saturdays from 10 - 12 details at www.autangel.org.uk/community/#o...

#tl;dr - • Wikipedia's main entry on autism is overlong, poorly structured and mostly ignores decades of autistic insights • Epistemic injustice is a widespread problem: too many are not believed about their own experiences, or given the tools to understand them

“It ruined my ability to say no, taught me that I didn’t have bodily autonomy and primed me for abuse later in life. I can only imagine how much worse other people might have it. 😦 ” #ABAisAbuse Via @thinkingautism.bsky.social

Self Identification is Valid.. For many an official diagnosis of “autism” is a privilege unfortunately not to mention the incredible flaws in the diagnostic procedure and as a result generations were missed.. #SelfIdentificationIsValod #Autistic #Neurodivergent

This is beyond horrifying and deeply unsettling.. But it needs to be seen and shared please Children are being abused in schools , special , state and academies Because they are #disabled & or #Neurodivergent #Autistic

A clip from a talk I delivered in Kingston recently

Holy heck, I've just realised that the #ABA article on #Wikipedia is *even worse* than it was when I wrote this! (It's been a few weeks since the first draft.) The lead section now TOTALLY OMITS any mention of any controversy at all! 😐😑😣🤯

This moment in Bluesky is a great example of how joy itself can be defiance and resistance. We are just hanging out, shitposting, being silly, happy, and normal. It is being treated as if it is transgressive, opting out of the endless negativity. Because in a way, it is. Joy is my favorite weapon.

Made the jump across to bluesky! 🦋
