Oregon High School Librarian of the Year 2024. Believes graphic novels are great for kids, pizza for breakfast is delicious and every school library should have a full time certified librarian plus full time assistant.

6 minutes until the ALA Youth Media Awards, the only awards I look forward to all year. So exciting! And a reminder there are so many excellent and enjoyable books that don’t win book awards and kids (and adults) should be able to read widely for pleasure.

Very worrying that a city the size of Salem could lose its public library?!

I'm gradually working my way through these enlightening and helpful podcasts. Thank you for this fantastic service, @slupodcast.bsky.social!

Some of my HS students are struggling to finish choice books. Do you have any lesson ideas for teaching HS students about reading stamina & book selection? I do Book Speed Dating & talk about genres, vocab, interests but I need more explicit instruction and I'm hoping for some tips & ideas. Thanks!

This is a powerful thread about how to focus on joy when times are dark, without living in denial…

Fed up with Meta? Avoiding Instagram or Facebook isn’t enough to stop Meta from harvesting and profiting from your private information. Here’s how to limit Meta’s ability to monetize your personal data.

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

Welp. Apple snuck something dirty in our phones last night. Settings > Apps > (pick an app) > Siri > Learn From this App TOGGLE OFF. You have to go through each app. My garage app, my BANKING APPS, others had that turned on automatically. 😡

It felt so great to see Juniors borrowing The Serpent King and In The Wild Light after I book talked them this week. They’re such gorgeous books and my heart is full. @jeffzentner.bsky.social

So you could say I had some good news today…….

Library win today: a student who is doing an extensive research project was convinced about a piece of misinformation last month. Today he told me he'd been wrong. I asked what changed his mind and he said "reading scholarly sources versus people's unreliable websites." Let him carry this forward!

Our library circulation is up as more students are reading and finishing books, and I want to keep momentum. I'm developing a strong collection, offering more small pop-up displays this year, & trying to do more book talks to classes. What are your best book promo methods this year? #TLsky

To all my school librarian friends, I figured out how to make a starter pack of librarians to follow on BlueSky. Follow it and the #TLSky hashtag. go.bsky.app/JPeAYQG

I don't know who needs to hear this, everyone I think, but if you send a PDF to your kindle and put 'convert' as the subject it will change it to epub format for you, you're welcome (I posted this on the other place and was surprised by how many people it helped so thought I'd do it here too.)

Yes, this! My challenge to my future self is to figure out how to balance staying informed over the next 4 years without feeling the outrage/fatigue/despair over every piece of chaos that will be thrown at us. There will be so much chaos and I just can't fall for it all again.

If you’re coming over from the Bad Place and want to nuclear block the chuds who ruined Twitter, here’s an easy way to do it: bsky.app/profile/did:...
