It collapses "non-significant" whitespace - just like HTML does and for the same reasons, rendering typographic design moot.
To understand how this mutilates an author's intent, read any book where whitespace indicates a change of speaker.
Given a Kindle, I can be left in any location indefinitely.
1. Get another e reader (I love my Kobo)
2. Download Calibre (calibre-ebook.com
3. Convert all your kindle library to .MOBI and transfer to your new reader
4. Enjoy and start buying books from another ebook retailer (I use kobo store, and random ones online !)
Calibre is also good for removing DRM from ebooks
You don't own ebooks, you basically rent them. Removing DRM gives you ownership
