“The reasons for putting forward such false justifications for the actions of the soldiers are obvious. This, coupled with any lack of proper challenge of their accounts by the RUC investigators, ensured there would be no actual accountability.” www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Our statement following Angela Rayner's decision to demolish Grenfell Tower

An inspiring day bringing together bereaved families and victims to reflect on the importance of #HillsboroughLaw

The perilous state of prisons and their failure will only be stopped by a radical change in sentencing policy, a halt to prison-building, dramatic reduction in the prison population and investment in communities, community services and radical alternatives to custody.

Safety in Custody statistics released today by the Ministry of Justice reveal: - the highest rate and number of self-harm incidents in the male and female estate since recording began in 2004. - an increase in the number of deaths compared to the previous year Read our full analysis & response 🔽

Between October 2023 and September last year, 80 children died while living in temporary housing. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

This finding is in stark contrast to evidence heard at the inquest. Another Black man in mental health crisis dead after lethal use of force and no one held to account. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Full of respect and admiration for Katie and William’s family who have fought for justice for 6 years. The emotional toll placed on families is often overlooked and how others bereaved after state violence and neglect feel their pain as they see deaths repeated and no accountability or change.

Damming indictment of Scottish prison system. Systemic failure and neglect resulted in deaths of Katie(21) and William(16). Need to stop imprisoning young people & invest in communities. And overhaul investigation & FAI system so grieving families are not forced to fight for the truth for years.

Grim reality of life inside Manchester prison. Death, self harm and dehumanising regimes.

Clearsprings in spotlight again as head of security at Essex centre for disabled asylum seekers removed over alleged far-right views. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

"High rates of self-harm & self-inflicted death, & being locked up for more than 22 hours a day, is the reality of life in Wandsworth prison. Damning inquest findings are so regular that those in power seem to forget that the people inside are human beings." - @debcoles13.bsky.social

More than 2,200 people died in Mediterranean in 2024, UN finds - includes hundreds of children, who make up one in five of all people migrating through the Mediterranean. The majority are fleeing violent conflict and poverty.

Shocking figures show that 270 people have died whilst awaiting asylum decisions in the UK including teenagers or children. news.sky.com/story/at-lea...

INQUEST’s Senior Caseworker Selen Cavcav spoke to @channel4news.bsky.social about the failures of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in relation to the death of 18 year old Tia Wilson. Watch the full segment to hear from Tia’s mother, Sharon Wilson.

This work is political: it is about whose lives are valued, the impact of poverty and racism, and the under resourcing of communities in contrast to the billions we pump into failing institutions. www.inquest.org.uk/end-of-year-...

The cruelty and trauma of the IPP sentence. “It is devastating to have witnessed how Haydar’s life was completely destroyed by the nature of his IPP sentence and the extensive delays he experienced when waiting to be released from prison”. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

“That’s why we need a public inquiry, because this is much, much bigger than just the PSNI, this involves some of the biggest organisations in the state, ie MI5, GCHQ and Scotland Yard.” www.theguardian.com/media/2024/d...

“We see the same unsafe systems and practices being repeated across the Priory Group. Families go through all of these protracted, distressing legal processes… and the sad fact is that the same mistakes keep being made.” - @debcoles13.bsky.social bit.ly/3BzreJA

Great news David

This is why we need #HillsboroughLawNow. “Time and time again, we have seen senior managers and boards are more interested in preserving the reputation of their organisation rather than dealing with patient safety issues.” Former Parliamentary Health Ombudsman. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

An honour to speak at an event to mark the life of Benjamin Zephaniah and his enduring legacy as poet, writer, actor, activist and the causes he championed. Rest in power my friend.

Such dehumanising treatment and neglect resulting in the death of her child. The catastrophic impact of the racist immigration system and treatment of people without recourse to public funds. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Appalling and dehumanising treatment of a 19 year old autistic mother Morgan-Rose Betchley by Sussex mental health services. A systematic failure to keep her safe and a shocking story of how the violence and neglect of institutions results in preventable deaths. www.inquest.org.uk/morgan-rose-...

Yesterday Greater Manchester Police used dispersal powers to force young people onto random trains anywhere out of the city. A news report says this was "youths gathering to cause trouble". In fact all were profiled as members of Traveller and Gypsy communities. This is police racism

Scotland's Children and Young People’s Commissioner to investigate data showing children are more than twice as likely than adults to experience use of force – batons, irritant sprays, leg restraints, spit hoods, and “empty hand techniques” – by Police Scotland officers news.stv.tv/scotland/pol...

A good time to share this report again in response to debates about harm inflicted on young people and why we need non policing solutions and investment in communities and spaces for young people. www.libertyhumanrights.org.uk/wp-content/u... www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...
