i’m getting van hollen pilled

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

Trapped under Lila kitty just like most days! #Caturday

From @theathletic.bsky.social: On the 78th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s breaking of MLB’s color barrier, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar used a speech to issue a forceful rebuke of President Trump’s efforts to eliminate DEI policies, calling them a “ruse.” nyti.ms/3Gdssw8

This little guy needs a forever home!

AERA, in partnership with the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education over the unlawful dismantling of the Institute of Education Sciences. www.aera.net/Newsroom/AER...

I just took a look at the Sunday @latimes.com. My local paper buried a photo of the @aoc.bsky.social and @sanders.senate.gov rally on the third page of the city & state section.

I don't think people realize that in important respects tariffs are now higher & more inflationary than what was announced on last Wednesday. Since then we've gone from 54% to 125% on China, our 3rd largest trading partner. That outweighs delaying the increases on 70+ others.

During WWII my Sicilian great grandparents had to register as enemy aliens. I assume it is also why my great grandfather was denied in his application to become a US citizen despite living in the US since 1912 and having some children who were citizens by birth. We must not stand by!

Today I had my first book chapter published. It’s about teacher education programs in California. Little did we know how important this work would be with recent and threatened funding cuts for public education. link.springer.com/chapter/10.1...

I’m proud of my hometown! Especially since it was a pretty red county when I was little but has become more and more progressive!

I think we all needed this record breaking speech from @booker.senate.gov

We need better train service in the US. As long as I can remember we’ve been promised train service from SoCal to San Francisco would come, but you still have to take an Amtrak bus for part of the route.

History speaks. Europe’s lessons from a century ago can wake up and inspire our democracy…in 2025 America. Stream my hour-long special “Rick Steves’ The Story of Fascism in Europe” at www.ricksteves.com/fascism.

Everything the Senator says is true. By my timeline Witkoff was actually sitting waiting to meet with Putin when he accepted the group invite.

🚨 CBS News has received an internal NSA bulletin from Feb 2025 warning staff NOT to use Signal app for sensitive info, citing vulnerabilities to Russian hackers. These docs were sent pre-Houthi chat scandal with Jeffrey Goldberg.

When I was a kid growing up in San Diego my dad’s best friend was the son of retired Rear Admiral Callahan. Joe was a true hero, having received the Navy Cross and the Silver Star for his service against Japan during WWII. I can just imagine what he would think about today’s news from the Atlantic.

There’s nothing like watching basketball at Pauley Pavilion. Congrats to the Bruin Women on their first round win in #MarchMadness !

Today is Lila cat’s fourth birthday! She was born at Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles and was the only girl in a litter of five. She’s very goofy, spunky, a cuddle monster, and the perfect little sister for Chloe cat. #caturday #rescuecat

No matter what happens it’s exciting to see my hometown team of UCSD doing so well in their game against Michigan. Go San Diego! #MarchMadness
