honestly don’t get still being on twitter like i guess rebuilding is tough but the writing has been on the wall for years now and even putting aside the moral issue it’s just an insanely unpleasant place from the UI to the population

It’s good to stay in shape and eat healthy but you also need to be reading. Get a library card. Find a book that appeals to you. Spend a few minutes reading before bed. Your brain will thank you, and you’ll be pleasantly shocked at the joy that books bring.

Aw dang now they have to euthanize Travis Kelce :/

in retrospect maybe it was a mistake to tell young people that reading, the arts, the humanities weren’t important and that “learning to code” was sufficient for a good life.

Almost two weeks ago, I found out I was one of 40 people getting laid off from NBC News. Those who know me know I’ve wanted to go independent for a long time. Later this month, I’m launching @spitfirenews.com. We need journalism that is louder than ever. spitfirenews.com/p/an-introdu...

Of course you don't know how to write it. That's why you have to write it

years it's never going to stop being: -2003 -2008 -2016

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

I’m not kidding: those who delegate all their writing, thinking and creative expression to machines are going to wake up one day and discover that they can no longer write or think. You need to make your own art. You need to keep your brain working. You need to stay human.

Wonderful if true: “no worries”

The remote work debate was funny because it forced the question "Is a job something valuable you do or is it a place you go to be watched like daycare" and the answer for a lot of them was yeah it's the daycare thing now come on inside recess is over

leaving the cruelty aside for just a minute it's absolutely humiliating to imagine being my age or older and getting excited because you think you've been given permission to say a bad word. what are you gonna do next, ride your tricycle past the end of the block

i don't know what any of the deepseek stuff means in the long term but i know it's making people i dislike upset and yeah sure i'll take the endorphin hit equivalent of a mcdouble any day of the week

99.99% of the time you're going to be the first and last person to read it. If it ever gets in front of another human, it has already survived the insurmountable odds of your own self-rejection, and the odds become much more grim after that. Just go ahead and write whatever you want!

It’s amusing that anti-intellectualism and artificial intelligence can both be abbreviated as AI because the way the latter is being marketed to the masses is “why don’t you just stop thinking?”

Might read and write as much as possible the next four years. Just an idea.

the word of the day is “kuebiko,” a feeling of being overcome with exhaustion at all the world’s horrors and a sense of resignation at your own inability to fix things.

feeling epic in oldness in that: neither the TikTok ban nor the Instagram grid flip to non-squares means anything to me, utterly devoid of emotion on either thing

the internet was better when it was on a computer in your house and didn't consume our whole lives. time passed more slowly before there were endless distractions. you had space to read, space to think, space to grow bored and create something.
