(4/5) 🚨 We don’t need more movies about us. We need FULL decriminalization. If you care about the reality behind these Hollywood stories (looking @ u Mikey Madison & Sean Baker), then please support the fight for s*x worker rights.

(3/5) 📜 Cecilia’s Act would decriminalize s*x work in New York, protecting s*x workers from police violence, exploitation, and unsafe conditions. It’s time to move beyond symbolic representation and demand real rights and real safety.
comment in response to post
(2/5) Hollywood loves to profit off our stories—but in the real world, s*x workers are still criminalized, harassed, and denied basic protections. The real fight isn’t on a movie set—it’s happening with us tomorrow at the NYS Capitol, pushing for #CeciliasAct.

(3/3) Criminalization doesn’t protect people—it increases harm. Full decrim is the only way forward. It’s time to pass #CeciliasAct and ensure safety & rights for s*x workers.

(2/3) 📜 #CeciliasAct (S2513/A3251) - @salazarsenate.bsky.social @phara4assembly.bsky.social is the bill NY needs & SWrs deserve. It decriminalizes s*x work, ending the violence, stigma, and criminalization that harm s*x workers—especially Black, Brown, trans, disabled & migrant communities.

(9/10) Equality Model NY’s approach to criminalize buyers, keeps s*x workers in danger by pushing them further underground.
comment in response to post
(8/10) Full decrim = real protection. -#CeciliasAct allows s*x workers to operate safely. -Reduces police harassment & state violence. -Upholds protections against coercion & trafficking. We don’t need more policing. We need safety & resources.
comment in response to post
(7/10) #NoBuyersNoPimps— Who Does This Really Protect? ❌ This slogan isn’t about protection—it’s about criminalization. By branding Black men as "pimps," policies like the Nordic Model (Equality Model NY’s approach) justify over-policing of Black and marginalized communities.
comment in response to post
(6/10) 🚨 This is not about protection—it’s about criminalization. Marginalized communities—especially Black, Brown, and LGBTQIA+ individuals—continue to be disproportionately policed under prostitution laws.
comment in response to post
(5/10) The legacy of racial criminalization continues today: -In Manhattan, Black men make up only 13.2% of residents but 31.2% of those arrested for buying s*x. -In the Bronx, they represent 30.6% of residents & 42% of arrests. -And 18% of the population in Queens & 23% of arrests.
comment in response to post
(4/10) Over time, Black men involved in underground economies, like SW, were increasingly labeled as “pimps.” This was reinforced through racist legal frameworks and later cemented in American culture—particularly through media Blaxploitation films of the 1970s & hip-hop in the 90s & 00s.
comment in response to post
(3/10) For instance, the Mann Act of 1910, while intended to combat trafficking, was disproportionately enforced against Black men, often under the pretext of protecting white women's purity.
comment in response to post
(2/10) Did you know? The term “pimp” was weaponized throughout the 20th century to criminalize Black men. This racist stereotype framed them as s*xual predators, leading to disproportionate arrests and harsher sentencing.

(7/8) #CeciliasAct takes a crucial step in protecting people in the s*x trades by increasing safety, reducing trafficking, and preventing police harassment. It also helps thousands of NYrs move forward by clearing past criminal records for offenses that are no longer illegal.
comment in response to post
(6/8) That's why major human rights & health organizations like @amnesty.org @who.int @hrw.org support full decriminalization.
comment in response to post
(5/8) Why does #CeciliasAct matter? Decriminalizing SW is a human rights issue. Research shows that any form of criminalization puts SWrs & trafficking survivors at greater risk of harm while making it harder to detect trafficking.
comment in response to post
(4/8) #CeciliasAct doesn't get rid of laws meant to stop human trafficking or the exploitation of minors. It keeps all criminal penalties for trafficking, which includes situations where people are forced, tricked or coerced into SW.
comment in response to post
(3/8) What is #CeciliasAct? A bill to amend NY law so that those who sell s*x, collab w/ consenting adult s*x working peers, or pay consenting adult SWrs won't be criminalized. It also clears past criminal records for charges that are no longer illegal.
comment in response to post
(2/8) Cecilia dedicated her life to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of people in the s*x trades, and this bill continues that fight.
