#WethePeople naively voted Trump into office largely in hopes that he would improve our economy like he promised. He has violated his promise & unleashed a vengeful attack against our Constitution & the rule of law. #WethePeople will not permit it. #DefendtheRepublic #ImpeachTrump #ResistanceUnited

The pettiness of the Trump administration never ceases to amaze. What does it cost to return Mr. Garcia? They look bad. That’s it. Meanwhile, it costs Mr. Garcia his freedom, dignity & reputation. #WethePeople demand accountability. #FreeGarcia #DefendtheRepublic #ImpeachTrump #ResistanceUnited

26 / What #DefendtheRepublic plans to do: #WethePeople... 1) PROMOTE NONVIOLENT ACTIVISM! 2) Expose Trump's unconstitutional & Illegal acts 3) Highlight leaders with a vision for a brighter America 4) Inspired by @booker.senate.gov, "Go out & cause some GOOD TROUBLE to redeem the SOUL of AMERICA"

25 / What #DefendtheRepublic is about: Bringing #WethePeople together under our shared cause. We recognize that our Republic needs us ALL to set aside our differences & unite against Trump to achieve a brighter future for America. Divisiveness is what got us here. If it continues, we let Trump win.

24 / Therefore, this thread will be the last time I talk in terms of "me" or "I". This way, #WethePeople will focus on the cause that binds us all together. We love our Republic, as flawed as it may be. We stand for TRUTH. We vow to #DefendtheRepublic, our CONSTITUTION, & the RULE OF LAW from Trump!

23 / The point of this thread is to introduce myself, explain how I came to be here, what I am about, & most importantly, what I plan to do. But I want to emphasize a change in my approach moving forward. Ultimately, this account, this cause, is not about me. I am nobody. But #WethePeople are power.

22 / But #WethePeople cannot give into fear & despair. Our Republic is on the line. The unconstitutional & illegal actions of Trump over the last 2+ months make that clear, but those actions are too numerous for me to cover here. I will write about much of it in time, as this is only the beginning.

21 / I fear for elected officials fighting back against Trump. I fear for judges enforcing a faithful interpretation of the Constitution & the law which Trump and his loyalists are determined to ignore. I fear for leaders & everyday citizens from all walks of life. Most of all, I fear for my family.

20 / Most of the time, I will try to refrain from profanity. It is not usually necessary & using it too much dilutes its potency. In this instance, however, it is appropriate. Trump's secret militia should FUCKING TERRIFY all of us. Not unlike @adamserwer.bsky.social's new book, FEAR is the point.
comment in response to post
19 / With the clemency, Trump brazenly sanctioned violence undertaken on his behalf. He now has a concealed militia ready to act at his mere suggestion, no orders required. He need only unleash his patented fury via social media at his perceived enemies & the worst of his zealots will do the rest.

18 / Worse still, it was completely legal. In hindsight, I lacked imagination. The vast majority of us did. It is a predictable outcome of putting an evil narcissist back in power whom openly admitted his intention for revenge & to be a dictator ("but only on day one"). Who the hell were we kidding?
comment in response to post
17 / By 21 Jan 2025, any illusion I had that our Republic could endure another Trump presidency vanished. Granting clemency for all of the 1500+ rioters, hundreds of whom violently assaulted police, & especially the Proud Boys & Oath Keepers, shattered my worst predictions. Our country was in peril.

16 / As outraged as I was by this outcome, I would have very much liked to concede to the will of the voters & go about my life with the dejection that the election loss brought with it. After all, what can a person do in the face of 77.3 million people voting for Trump, despite his lies & crimes?
comment in response to post
15 / This led to the 2024 presidential election as a delayed showdown between Trump & Harris. There are many theories as to why Trump won & I would argue that aspects of many of them have a great deal of merit. Regardless, Trump did indeed win. #WethePeople voted him back into the office of POTUS.

14 / Then, our legal system failed to prosecute Trump for his various heinous crimes, aided immensely by the legal gymnastics of a SCOTUS immunity decision. Meanwhile, a corrupt GOP continued to blindly follow Trump until any semblance of traditional values buckled to fealty to Trump above all else.
comment in response to post
13 / This went on for years, despite the irrefutable findings of the Jan 6 committee, led by House Reps @benniethompson.bsky.social, @lizcheney.bsky.social, Zoe Lofgren, @schiff.senate.gov, @reppeteaguilar.bsky.social, @adamkinzinger.bsky.social, Stephanie Murphy, @raskin.house.gov, & Elaina Luria.

12 / For most politicians, that would be the end. But not for Trump. The lies & propaganda took on a new life. Conspiracy-ridden 2020 election denialism entered the mainstream. He exerted inexplicable power over an immoral, populist GOP. He endorsed candidates for their fealty & attacked detractors.
comment in response to post
11 / With tragic irony, Senators Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, & others argued that conviction was unconstitutional & a moot point with him no longer in office. Despite any hindsight bias, GOP Senators remain inexcusably culpable for making Trump's return possible for the sake of political survival.
comment in response to post
10 / On 13 Feb 2021, the Senate had the chance to hold Trump accountable & stop him from ever holding any Federal office again. Sadly, the vote failed to reach the 2/3 needed to convict, with 57 "yes" & 43 "no". Only 7 GOP Senators upheld their oaths. The rest chose Party & power over our Republic.
comment in response to post
9 / The 10 GOP Reps that voted "yes" should not have been the exception. However, they were. They made sacrifices & have endured threats to #DefendtheRepublic. This is especially true of @lizcheney.bsky.social & @adamkinzinger.bsky.social, who brought bipartisan legitimacy to the Jan 6 committee.
comment in response to post
8 / I assert, emphatically, that there was no rational justification for GOP Reps to vote "no" while still honoring their oaths. Any argument to the contrary requires something akin to Orwell's 1984, that Republicans reject the evidence of their eyes & ears. Indeed, this is all I have seen & heard.
comment in response to post
7 / I do not make my accusation against GOP members of both houses lightly. So let us examine the facts more closely to support my argument. On 13 Jan 2021, Trump was impeached a 2nd time for his role in the Jan 6 insurrection by a vote of 232 "yes" & 197 "no". Only 10 GOP Reps upheld their oaths.
comment in response to post
6 / Somehow, Trump shockingly managed to elude any accountability for his criminal conduct. The period from Jan 2021 to present represents the decline of our Republic, when most GOP House Reps & Senators shamefully violated their oaths to the US Constitution & are therefore irredeemably compromised.
comment in response to post
5 / If our Republic functioned properly, Trump would have been impeached without hesitation. Our leaders in Congress do not have the excuse of ignorance. Their house was attacked at Trump's behest. He shirked responsibility by pointing to calls for peaceful protest, but this is just a clever lie.
comment in response to post
4 / We all know where this ended. On 6 Jan 2021, we were lucky. Our democratic institutions survived, if only just. Unfortunately, #WethePeople took this for granted. Proof of the infallible strength of our Republic. Many of us, including me, happily went about our lives. But trouble was brewing.

3 / In Nov 2020, Trump knew he lost, but declared victory. He endorsed baseless conspiracies of widespread fraud. He grasped for wild theories to legitimize a 2nd term. When all else failed, on 6 Jan 2021, he abused the patriotism of his supporters, lying about a stolen election to incite violence.

2 / As I watched the hearings, disgust & horror became outrage. In these hearings, we had undeniable evidence of the sitting US president vehemently lying about the results of a free & fair election in a desperate bid to remain in power. He incited a violent attack on the US capital. Americans died.

1 / My foray into activism started slowly, several years ago as I watched the Jan 6 committee hearings in disgust & horror. Prior to this, like many Americans, I did not at first understand the gravity of the Jan 6 insurrection. I considered it appalling & troubling, but not of great significance.

#WethePeople argue that the Trump Administration has given Congress much more than needed, many times over, to #ImpeachTrump. The road will be long and arduous, but it is absolutely necessary. This cannot stand. #DefendtheRepublic #ResistanceUnited #FreeGarcia

#WethePeople see you @chrismurphyct.bsky.social, & stand with you in support of TRUTH and our CONSTITUTION. These are perilous times that demand bold leadership like you & @booker.senate.gov. Set aside petty squabbles & unite the party with a positive vision for our country. We must #ImpeachTrump!

10/ And once Trump has the lawyers, colleges and industry under his thumb, it becomes very hard for the opposition to have any viable space to maneuver. Trump didn’t invent this strategy. It’s the playbook for democratically elected leaders who want to stay in power forever.

Thank you for standing for truth. It may not feel like you’re making a difference in these dark times, but you are.
