Amazing. I love following this thread. I guess littering is OK because there's no environment to protect, other than sand. 🤷♂️ (not a serious comment!)

Makes sense. Sky is in Malden Center now.

Also, I love being able to walk/run in the woods/nature. You can't do that easily in Somerville. There are many pros and cons. I'd be curious to see what your house is like sometime!!!

Great! I was looking at apts, and if I move back I was leaning towards either Malden or the Woburn area. Somerville is too expensive now, plus there was a bit of an issue with airplane noise that started for me a year or so ago.. right now I don't have any firm plans though. Giving NIH job more time

I'm not convinced it makes sense to call Elon a Nazi. I don't think the AfD is a Nazi party. They are a right-wing populist party, like the current Republican party. I'm just saying it's a better argument than the "he made a Nazi salute" argument.

Now that is a slightly better argument

Doing a heil Hitler on national TV to try to win over a tiny fraction of people is stupid. So for all those reasons it's pretty clear it was not intended as such.

No.. I don't think Elon intended it to be interpreted that way. Only an idiot would think that. Because Elon is not a Nazi and it's clear what he was trying to communicate.

There is ambiguity in many things and they are trying to take advantage of that to draw people (ie Elon fanboys and fangirls) to their cause.

I always forget about Substack Notes. I feel like my IQ is increasing whenever I'm on Substack Notes. The problem is the content on Bluesky and X is more addictive...

they were involved yes..
the legality is unclear but seems more lawful than not on net. I have studied the email, I work at NIH so I got it myself..
another way of looking at it (or aspect of it) is they gave people a very generous offer for those who don't want to return to in-person work

that's separate from DOGE. I am somewhat concerned about them gutting too much -- we'll have to see.

At a high level I share your concern about the executive overstepping their power / claiming too much power. Nothing I've seen with Elon or DOGE so far concerns me much though.

of course the few actual Nazis in this country (who are like at most 0.001% of the population) would interpret it that way.

I think he wants private kingdoms, each run like a company, with a CEO (king) on top... similar to feudalism. That's consistent with anarcho capitalism and many think is the expected state if anarcho capitalism was to be realized

sure, that is all consistent with anarcho capitalism, taking the more liberal/progressive views on rights and human dignity

*fascist lol I am a bit out of sorts today and it is showing up in my typing

A lot of tech people read / follow Yarvin, because he has interesting ideas, but few people buy into his entire world view hook line and sinker.
Yarvin, from what I understand, is more anarcho-capitalist than facist, although I can see why many would lump him under facist.

I happen to know a lot about Peter Thiel, I've been following him for many years. He does not easily fit into any of the normal political categories. In general he's anti-woke / anti- identity politics, and fairly libertarian. Definitely not fascist.

The "tech-right" isn't easy to categorize..it's mostly libertarian actually, and they think sci & tech are the main divers of progress (something I agree with, somewhat). Not sure that documentary actually explains it well (from what I've seen, it's just a montage of soundbites) but I'll take a look

can you provide a link? A quick Google of "curtis yarvin butterfly revolution" doesn't return much...
