In the US, people have been taught from childhood that the Israelis are the good guys, always justified. Question that that and you are an an anti-Semite. It will take serious reflection and effort for many to see the actual situation. We are taught not to see Palestinians. They are a non-people.

Why would anyone believe her, given the overwhelming evidence? On the other hand, our universe can be a weird and unpredictable place. The stupidest person in the room can say something intelligent.

IT began with a spontaneous desire to do something for Jews after the Holocaust. Palestinians were unseen people in the West, so no one cared about them. Propaganda bloomed, and whole generations were raised to believe that Israel could do no wrong; doubt it, you were equivalent of an axe murderer.

Aran Island. Why witches? They were tall, thin, middle-aged, and wore long raincoats. Fit one stereotype of witches. They looked like they had been 'adjusting' or cleaning around the well. They told us that the water was sacred. That we should dip our hands in it. We left feeling uncannily elated.
