tga is apparently quite common ... but because there aren't any lasting effects, it's not something many people know about. (i certainly didn't.) the e.r. was basically like "whew, not a stroke! we'll scan your brain and send you home now." […]

interesting split between a soldered-ram ai-first desktop pc and a 12" ebook ... super curious to see how this pans out.

@cassidy @micahilbery that icon makes me want to bite it, somehow. :) the music of this one is fantastic! pretty addictive.

Tiny Crate, a third open source Godot Engine game from the same developer, is all the way down at 224. Not terrible among thousands of games… but we can get it trending higher. :D https://flathub.org/apps/net.hhoney.tinycrate You can check out its nice new icon from @micahilbery by clicking […]

@WiteWulf someone else did point me to opencore legacy patcher... super neat! that wouldn't have solved my problem, though. even macos 10.10 was bordering on unusable on this hardware... a beachball for every task. i have two primary computers: an x1 carbon that's my work machine and daily […]

@WiteWulf i think i only said it once? i think most people will recognize my word choice as at least a *bit* tongue-in-cheek. 🤷‍♀️ but a trillion-dollar company gate-keeping support for perfectly functional hardware is kinda six of one. the iphone 3g is a particularly funny example. i […]

@maarteuh @jurjen_heeck i have to admit i'm totally ignorant of microsoft's desktop computing space these days. i haven't run windows for 20+ years. if microsoft is forcing people to upgrade to windows 11, and if it performs poorly on old hardware, the nice thing about that situation is that a […]

news time is restricted by battery. no plugging in will be permitted over there (and thankfully it's inconvenient). if i need more news than my laptop's battery can fuel, i probably need a walk in the park more than i need the news.

my space for the news is a seat 4 steps from my desk, on the couch. it's not hard to get to. but it's a *very* different space for me. previously, couch = movies. now, couch = movies + news. news on the phone is never allowed. if you find yourself drowning, i recommend this approach to you, too.

tonight, i set up a dedicated space for news. i'm still allowed to check halifax weather, hear the latest linux kernel rust kerfuffle, read about whether the #gnome logo is good or not, hear about usa ...things... and canada things, or read jokes about any of it. but not at my desk. forbidden […]

@nikitonsky i did three interviews with https://excalidraw.com/ over the past week. i love it every time i open it. open source, no login, it just works, the software is more-or-less "done". so great.

@crmsnbleyd i definitely prefer navidrome to jellyfin. worth an install, for sure. clients are various and will require some experimenting but i like isub on the iphone despite the fact it’s quite ugly
