people who are transphobic about children are exercising a right they think they have to deny children agency over their bodies. this is inherently sexually abusive and it is done broadly at an institutional level.

they don't want to teach children anything about sex or gender because doing so gives them the vocabulary to protest their abuse, and they believe they have sexual rights over children

so when they say trans people's lives are a distraction, they mean it sincerely. they feel like trans people are a huge inconvenience and are distracting people from the "broader" message which Ds feel will win for them if only those irritating people over there would shut up (and vote for them.)
