Trump is handing states their focal site of resistance. Let's hope they see it. #ResistingFederalPreemption

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the @deanruskintlaw.bsky.social 2025 Spring International Law Colloquium where I got to share my ongoing work. My thanks again to @desireelc.bsky.social , Tim Sample (both ⬇️), students and staff who showed up or involved in the planning. 🙏🏿

Lately, my work has focused on ways red & blue states can collaborate to resist the federal government. I get the natural pushback from people who can't imagine that collaboration. B/w this 👇👇👇 & requiring the deportation of immigrant laborers, hold tight. #resistingfederalpreemption

1/ 🚨 President Trump promised to protect Medicaid, stating he would “love and cherish” the program. Yet, he now endorses a House GOP budget that slashes $880 BILLION from Medicaid, jeopardizing healthcare for millions of low-wage workers and their families. 💔 #Resist

Thrilled to see @akinkugbe.bsky.social on Friday for our IEL colloquium and to hear the conversation between him and Tim Samples (along with out students) on Trade and Development in an Era of Geopolitics.

#IEL friends - I am researching the interpretation of full employment in the GATT, & most early discussions took place around the Trade & Empl't conf. Can anyone point me to lit explaining the relationship b/w those 1946-47 preparatory sessions and the GATT?

This is absolutely insane. Musk’s DOGE crew just straight up *took* $80 million from an NYC bank account!

Oh, don't worry, that flash you saw was just me running to the bank to pull out my savings in cash before the world goes to shit.

I love this. This should be the symbol of the new rebel coalition.

Whole Foods, which is owned by notorious union-buster Amazon, is arguing that Trump's dismantling of the NLRB means the company doesn't have to recognize a newly unionized store in Philadelphia. Looks like Jeff Bezos' investment in Trump is paying off.

There is a way these states can organize around their opposition to the federal government:

ALERT TO FEDERAL WORKERS: The Thursday “deadline” set by Musk isn’t a thing. Congress hasn’t appropriated the funds to pay you what he promised should you resign by today — nor has Congress authorized anyone to threaten you with losing anything for staying on. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

🚨 ALL OUT FOR WORKERS’ RIGHTS! Tomorrow in D.C. show up and show out!! 🚨

I’m not sure exactly how the NLRB processes showings of interest and what document retention or recording occurs, but I’d be very worried about Elon Musk and DOGE potentially having access to petitions filed by workers seeking to organize.

Late last night, with about 15 minutes notice to the Union, the NLRB’s HR sent an email adopting the terms of the forked-up resignation scam. HR also provided us a contract that appears to be drafted by AI or LegalZoom. As labor lawyers, we’re happy to go over this in detail. 🧵

Elon Musk is a terrible president.

Reposting with alt text. In case it inspires anyone else out there to hold the line.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out. This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

It was an honor to be invited by @jessicacweiss.bsky.social to participate in this report on US-China relations. My contribution focuses on US-China labor tensions. After describing them, I propose each government use the International Labor Organization (ILO) to mediate.

It looks like even Fox News has come to realize that, in fact, there is more going on these days than fluffy panda bears and evil Dems.

FFS. Less punting and more action, please.

If there is any doubt that tariffs are passed through to consumers, the cost of propane to heat my house just went up by the amount of the tariff

Ah, our president, the one who stands up for workers…oh wait apple.news/A6wWPFjBAT5u...

I think a clear concrete question people who are worried about the present political trajectory can ask themselves is "how can I support AFSCME and AFGE?"

Since the unlawful firing of NLRB Member Wilcox, I've seen a lot of misinformation about how the NLRB can no longer function. See this insightful post fhttps://open.substack.com/pub/nlrbedge/p/how-the-nlrb-works-without-a-quorum?r=4pfwuh&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

This is 100% illegal. It’s a new escalation in Trump’s battle for absolute control over the administrative state. Federal law explicitly protects Wilcox against termination. That law is constitutional under binding Supreme Court precedent. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Happy to see my piece on grassroots worker organizing & the residual impediments under labor law (including under Biden), out in the world. It walks through labor doctrine to show how the law chills strife, defeating the NLRA's objective for industrial peace. escholarship.org/uc/item/9xr7...

Thanks so much to @desireelc.bsky.social for inviting me, @dianemarieamann.bsky.social for incisive comments, @sarahquinnezz.bsky.social & Taher Benany for helping put it together, Dean Usha Rodrigues for welcoming me back, and to all the students + colleagues for the incomparably rich conversation

Please join us online or in person this Friday, January 24, from 1-3pm EST to learn from Luwam Dirar, the 2nd speaker in our International Economic Law symposium. For those who can't make it in person, please feel free to tune in and ask questions at zoom.us/j/9834477911....
