Will you light my Christmas cigar.

#findsfriday Romano British dragon/serpent brooch. Findspot - Beverley.

It's quite rare to see Elizabeth 1 portrait as many coins were defaced. Here is one in better condition from my finds.

Somebody long forgotten 😔 I wonder who? From a night soil tipped field near Beverley.

This find came up in a field in Nov 2018. 100 years after the end of WW1. Pte William C Burrage is listed in medal records as 1914 .. R4 068713 ( not 068718 as on badge). Intriguing and interesting .. He lived in Hutton Cranswick and survived the war. His battalion looked after horses.

Utterly Butterly, Utterly Beautiful ... Celtic Gold Corieltauvi Stater. Found by me near Hull. Has a unique inverted reverse design and is in absolutely mint condition for a 2000 year old coin.

Rivers and lakes have always had a special place in beliefs and ritual. During the Bronze Age of southern Germany, in particular swords were frequently deposited in rivers. Swords found in the Danube and its tributaries, Historisches Museum Regensburg. #archaeology

Robert de Hadeleie was the moneyer at the Bury St. Edmunds mint from 1280-1289 and the last moneyer to have their name appear on any English coin

I'm intrigued by this one! Carnelian intaglio with a 'pietatis imago' scene of Aeneas' family fleeing Troy: ca. 20 BC, but with no firm provenance prior to 1887. The star above may be a 'Caesarean' nod. #AncientBluesky 🏺 Image: Getty Collection (2019.13.14). Link - www.getty.edu/art/collecti...

Lovely to see my friends from @independentsage.bsky.social all here in a handy-to-follow starter pack. These are all good people - who believe in science as a public good; sharing expertise freely; the importance of listening - and resisting political pressure when it comes to health & wellbeing:

Enjoying watching #Cymru v #Iceland on Welsh language TV. Obviously more interestin with involvement of #LUFC players #DanJames and #JoeRodon Had a cheeky couple of quid on the Welsh lads when they were behind!

Imagine waking up to this every morning... Resist the fallacy that life in the past was miserable! There's a lot that's tough about today too, and our ancient ancestors lives were filled with just as much beauty, magic, and joy as our own. Prehistoric ≠ primitive ✊

My favourite find from 34 years of detecting. Norfolk rally, 15th August 1993. The workmanship is just stunning. Medieval gold, sapphire and emerald. (Declared, not Treasure Trove at inquest, with jury of 12.)

We've only been on here for five days, but really surprised to connect with so many people. We're looking forward to sharing our stories and always enjoy welcoming people. Thanks so much to everyone who has followed us, it's lovely to meet you all.

crazy how this app is actually pretty good

They have said, and we quote: “Naughty school kids probably… 😅” If you leave any graffiti up long enough though, it does become cool history in its own right, like some we have elsewhere in the castle. But please don’t do it on ancient places!
