Did someone replace the headline writer at @nytimes.com with a person who understands current events?

Terminal case of techbro disease. They literally cannot comprehend that a shit-ton of people work for the government doing things that don't involve e-mail at al whatsoever.

#TeslaTakedown protests continue today! Find one in your city or create your own at Teslatakedown.com! More protests are popping up overseas! Keep it going!

I am rather amazed to find out that some of our master tapes made it into the library system. Some of these shows were recorded more than 35 years ago. I was the host and co-producer when the live music show first launched. And it's still on the air! exhibits.stanford.edu/kzsu/feature...

Elon tweeted 541 times in the month before buying twitter. Last month he tweeted more than 4,500 times. The drugs are working

My buddy @samwang.bsky.social has some good advice for everybody trying to resist the fascist surge, and not just scientists. samwang.substack.com/p/an-action-...

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

Shakedown politics: obey or I end you

This is quite funny.

I am heading to the US embassy to renew my passport and dreading the moment when I see the glowering mugshot of the felon in chief on the wall of the waiting room.

This is brilliant. And funny AF. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/o...

NEW: Georgia’s governor promotes his Medicaid work requirement as a national model for reform. Yet the program has cost taxpayers $86M, three-quarters of which has gone to consultants, and enrolled less than 3% of the quarter-million Georgians eligible.

$8 million is definitely less than $8 billion. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

We all know you are a mouthpiece for the Singapore government, St, but do you have to be a mouthpiece for the Kremlin, too?

In light of what is happening today, my seminar tomorrow on Harold Lasswell and propaganda analysis will include this old, short film on which he consulted. It had been optional viewing, now it will be required. Easy to justify the 10 minutes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaWS...

I just learned of Gary's passing last year. RIP. His second band, Sister Double Happiness, played on the live music show I hosted at @kzsustanford.bsky.social in the 80s/90s. Lynn played so hard it was tough to get a good mix in our small studio, but they were great. www.kqed.org/arts/1395722...

time to dig up the @adamkotsko.bsky.social tweet

Look Past Elon Musk’s Chaos. There’s Something More Sinister at Work. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/o...

A huge decision from Judge Amir Ali, meticulously reasoned and utterly scathing, finding that Trump’s foreign aid freeze is almost certainly an illegal and arbitrary abuse of power. He orders the immediate restoration of all international assistance. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Hey @nytimes.com there is no way to legally "pause" a law like this. Maybe that should be mentioned in the story. Or the headline. Please do not just publish "Trump objects" stories without some grounding in the Constitution. Or the freaking moment. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/11/u...

I really wish the New York Times would do their job. The president cannot “pause enforcement.” It’s illegal, unconstitutional, and impeachable. Gift link:

Personally, I am not much of a fan of Coldplay, but lots of folks here in SG love them. I'm sure they know that, and it's a big reason why they shot video here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Jp...

Journalism under fire from the neo-Nazis. No surprise.

The AAF is a hate group. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

huh, i wonder what this is about www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The Heritage Foundation people behind this are the absolute worst. Such a hateful group of white, christian* nationalists. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Although NOAA's page on atmospheric CO2 levels has vanished, you can still get this vital information from Ralph Keeling's team at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego keelingcurve.ucsd.edu Please follow bsky.app/profile/keel... for updates and share Don't let science be hidden

An unelected billionaire is illegally seizing control of the US government apparatus and carrying out a flurry of crimes as part of an unprecedented authoritarian power grab that directly violates several laws and the US Constitution. Say it plainly. It’s fact.

So at the same time as Trump is chumming up with Bibi saying they're going to convert Gaza to a resort run by his son-in-law, Trump's CIA is saying they're not going to fight terrorism in the Middle East anymore. www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

If you don’t stand up for rule of law, nothing else matters. It’s the mechanism of accountability in democracies. If Trump can do anything he wants with shutting down agencies, it’s naive to imagine he will follow the rules in elections and beyond. Preserving rule of law is existential to democracy.

The flagged words in the full list include "women" and "female," which makes it seem like this would encompass an *awful* lot of research?

The United States built the largest and most fruitful scientific enterprise the world has ever seen, acquiring great prosperity and stability as a result. And now fascists are tearing it all down. Censoring scientists, deleting data, purging institutions. A tremendous loss.

Someone is going full fasch at the NSF.

Raskin: "Elon Musk, you may have illegally seized power over the financial payments systems of the Treasury, but you don't control the money of the American people. The US Congress does that under Article 1 of the Constitution ... we don't have a fourth branch of government called 'Elon Musk'"

Conservative budget wonks (Manhattan Instiutte, Tax Foundation) confirming that this is a consittutional crisis. Not liberal hysteria. Happening right now.
